Good day (maybe)
Power steering pump reservoir is loosing fluid. Leaking on floor ahead of passenger front wheel. Fluid is draining from gasket at the base of the pump. Talked to dealer about purchasing a gasket set. Mazda do not have this. Their solution is buy an replacement pump /motor. Problem 1 is I live a days drive from a dealer.
There are systems available on e bay, but the replacement has to be an exact replacement (made/model/#) or the cars computer has to be programmed to recognize it. Problem 2, how does one know if they buy a system that is reprogrammable and how does one do that in a place where no dealer is available.

IS IT an option to refill the fluid reservoir with a mixture of power steering fluid an Lucas Power Steering Leak Stop. Would this allow me to drive the car in an attempt to coming up with a solution?

Yes I need helpful suggestions!!

Lucas does a pretty decent job at closing things up. Might not work too well on this application, but it's worth a shot given your options. Don't put too much in the system (maybe drain the reservior halfway). Run the car for a few weeks, and if it stops, do a flush before the winter as the lucas can be too thick for some PS pumps in the cold.

Check rock auto for prices. They are very cheap and the install is pretty easy.
