Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had a problem similar to this or if someone might have some insight on what may be the cause of the problem I am having atm.
Basically.. When my car (2012 skyactiv hatch) is cold the car is pretty slow to shift from reverse into drive. In the mornings or after I am parked for a while, I would reverse out of a parking spot and then put it into drive.. After about 1~2 seconds, I would slowly start to step on the accelerator. However, the car would just rev a little bit and then the transmission would engage drive and the whole car would just jerk forward.
I've noticed that this only happens when the car is cold. When it is warm, the problem is no more. It will shift from reverse to drive very quickly.
The car has 90k km on it atm...
Thanks!

How frequent you change the tranny fluid?

I actually just changed it yesterday. I only did a fluid flush though.. Didn't actually drop the pan and change the filter. Dealer wouldn't sell me the filter for some odd reason.. Parts guy said that they never change it... Lol

Havent actually checked the mounts.. Didn't think it would be that lol
And for the most part, most of the kms are commuting kms between Vaughan and Scarborough... I do have some spritied drives here and there.

The car is technically still under the power train warranty... But they could easily just say that they don't notice it lol.. Since its not always there 😕

maybe it needs a software update.

maybe it needs a software update.
When I went to pick up the fluids the other day, I mentioned this problem to the service advisor at the dealer and he said he needs heard of this problem before.. Though he'd probably want me to bring it in to him and pay him 110 bucks to figure it out.. If at all lol.

What? A software update on trannies?
I still cant believe that cars are ran by programs now.

the only other thing is what do you do when you drive the car. turn key and go? do you let it run a minute or two and let it warm up at all? how long does it take for you to drive and have an issue in reverse. as it has been getting warmer is it any better? like was this more a winter issue vs now summer ish issue?
the only other thing I can think of if this is like the first reverse when you leave it could just be the fluid is cold. try reverse parking and see if it has any issues going from park to drive. if its slow or sloppy. could be software.. could be tranny itself.. haven't heard much though about the sky active trannys needing replacement.

um.. the cars have a main pcm for the power control module. a tcm for automatic trans. a bcm for body control modules and then tons of other little ones.

I leave it on for at least a minute or 2 when it's cold. I let the engine warm up for a bit, least till it goes back to normal idling rpms... Been doing it for a while now.
And I've actually only notice this problem recently, it didn't happen through the winter. So don't think it's temperature related.. And nor have I really notice this happen from Park to drive... Now that I think about it. Ive only specifically noticed it from reverse to drive after backing up from a parking spot or from my driveway.

Just an update. Took my car to mazda as it was still under warranty... And think they pretty much fixed it. It's like 95% fixed now. Only happens very very rarely now. Here's a picture of the invoice.

Basically reprogrammed the transmission. Note the attached picture in that "cause" section by the top of the invoice (hope the picture got attached correctly)
