Good idea? Bad idea?
If it's safe to do, can anyone recommend a shop in the GTA?
Thanks!

The team at Simply Tire did an awesome job on mine.

Can be a good idea if thats your preference. Safe to do. If you're doing it yourself make sure you use high heat paint.
Simply Tire did mine when I had me 2nd gen. Be prepared to have them repainted after a little bit though...depending on how much you drive could be sooner rather then later.

Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't attempt it myself - I'd prefer an experienced shop to do it. Sounds like Simply Tire is the place to go to get it done.
How long would you say the paint lasts? I drive about 12k/year.

G2 Caliper paint kits are good too. Its an easy thing to do, but takes time.

Simply Tire does an excellent job.
Had them do my Volvo C30 in 2013. They were starting to look a little chipped / faded in 2015, but that's with track and autocross cooking the brakes frequently. I brought it to them again because I upgraded my front calipers.
They also just did my 3.

That looks fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for. I'm switching out my OEM 18" alloys for the Satin black wheels and planning on doing red calipers.
Thanks!

Shout-out to Chris@Simplytire and the amazing hand painted job that was done to my calipers! I bought the paint that most people stay away from because it was the only way I was going to the pink I wanted and it didn't even phase the Simply Tire team.
Read the reviews on them here :)

I picked up the car yesterday. Drove straight to Simply Tire and got my calipers painted. Also recieved a couple of quotes on new black rims and new winter tires. Very professional, easy to talk to and great service. 10/10

I used a G2 kit. It was easy to do and looks like it did the day I painted them. That was over 2 years ago. Just clean the brake dust off of them when you wash the car and they will look good for a long time.

Be sure to take time prepping the callipers. I ended up rushing through the process and had to refinish them

I used Tremclad Red rust paint. Under $15 for a liter or u can buy spray cans for around $6. It resists the heat from the brakes and is super durable and glossy. Had em on for 2 years now. Has not faded or chipped. Its all in the prep work.

Repainted my calipers last weekend. I was dumb and had them white before. They looked nice in the driveway after I was done and that was the only time.
So I painted them red with Vht caliper paint, put the caliper stickers on form gta decal and sealed them with caliper clear.

Can you just paint overtop the old paint without any issues? I painted mine but they look crappy now. Probably because I didn't put on a clear coat (or whatever it's called) on top. I want to get Simply Tire to redo it but I wasn't sure if this was OK or not. I asked once and the guy at the front desk said yeah, no problem. I was just worried that it wouldn't look that nice.

I was going to paint over the white. When I was cleaning the caliper with break cleaner the white paint turned soft. So I just took a wire brush and sand paper went back to naked caliper and did it in red. I also had a decal on before and wanted to sand that off.
If you just have a solid colour I don't see the harm in scuffing them up and repainting them.
I don't think the clear has anything to do with durability. Just gives it a glossy look. Prep is everything, there are tons of videos on YouTube to help you do the job right. Also make sure you use a high temperature paint.
Honestly though Simply tire has a great price to do it. By the time you add the cost of paint, sand paper and your time.

Someone on this forum suggested going to Venom Fang on warden and 401. Went there twice and they did a great job both times. I believe it's $80 cash.
