Hey all,

Came across a problem thats quite annoying with 2 parts to it. I've had this problem for about 6 weeks now and the squeak keeps getting worse.

1. Clutch squeaks. Push the clutch in or out and it squeaks. Going down the road and hit a bump, squeak. The squeak is coming from the front of the motor. There is a boot there which had some dirt in there when i peeled it back. I lubed it but the sound is still very present.

2. Had the car up on 4 jack stands yesterday to change the transmission oil. The fill bolt was only hand tight and had been leaking. Ive had this car since new and never did the tranny (now 100k). Started the motor and was giving it gas (burping cooling system). The wheels were spinning in neutral. At 3k in neutral the traction control kicked on. If i had clutch in then the wheels would disengage.

Advise? any idea what this could be?

I don't know the solution but I have the same problem that is also a 2012 hatch. Mine has been going on for a 1+. I tried asking the dealership and Jimmy and both said they have to open the transmission to troubleshoot. Let me know if you find the problem.

It seems to be coming from the front either slave or master cylinder area. Just like a lot of videos online, lube lube lube. Will keep trying though. Dont want to open the transmission if thats not the cause as itll be big $$$

I would suspect the clutch since your wheels turn in neutral, meaning its not disengaging completely or possibly simply an adjustment issue... The squeak can also be coming from the same issue, possibly a bearing or spline problem.

Forget opening the trans, doubtful the issue is internal.

I'd change out your trans oil also since your at 100k, I'd suggest Redline for your new gear oil, and make sure to tighten the bolt properly.:)

transmission oil was changed for redline spec. Shifts great. Squeaks every gear shift. I was reading the tire rotating is potentially normal. Need to rule out throw out bearing though. Ive driven stick the last 15 years and have never had a problem like this!

is the noise at the peal when you press it in?

I have the same car and my clutch squeaks. I asked Jimmy about it when he changed my gear oil and he told me the noise is from a lack of lubrication on the throwout bearing. He said its more of an annoyance and won't do damage though, just replace the bearing when I get a clutch done

Ill take a pic of what I lubed. noise appears to be gone now but will continue to update post.

From what i gathered from my readings is if it is throw out bearing it will only squeak with my motor running. Mine squeaked without motor running. I had a friend spray what i believe is the clutch slave cylinder. Inside the boot was very dry and actually had dirt in there. Coated it in white lithium grease.

I have found that the clutch fork may squeak. I have had it happen where the slave cylinder pushes on the fork, that spot can squeak over time. Try to lube that area.

Thanks for reporting back, I will get Jimmy to check it out when I get an oil change.

A picture would be appreciated. You can hear the noise in my car when you're outside of the car as well. Same as yours, makes it even with the engine off. Hoping to fix this soon

Drive tires rotating when in neutral is definitely not normal. As I said it could be simply an adjustment issue or worse an issue with the clutch itself, but not normal.

Supposedly some rotation is ok, but why is traction control coming on at 3k? I had to turn it off to do the coolant flush properly!

My tires rotate in neutral when it's in the air, too. It is completely normal in any gearbox full of fluid. The main shaft of the tranny is still spinning and creates enough of a flow in the oil to spin the gears....it's acting like an impromptu hydraulic pump. It happens on all of my higher HP outboard boat motors, too. Traction control coming on when you have it in the air is normal, too, because each brake caliper has different drag from side-to-side and dissimilar shaft lengths from L->R produce different rotational torque vectors. Once the ECU sees too much of a disparity between sides, it puts traction on. Happens to me, too.
