I had the left rear caliper replaced due to "sticking". However, I have now noticed that the brakes aren't as sensitive and I have to push the brake pedal all the way in order to come to a stop. Is this normal? Previously, I only had to push it about two thirds to come to a stop, and it just felt more sensitive.

Take it back to where you had the brake work done and tell them to bleed the brake system. They should have done it with the caliper replacement.

Flagrum_3 is correct.

Sounds like you have air in the system. Bleeding the entire brake system now needs to be performed.

Use the opportunity to have them change out the fluid and bleed all 4 wheels to ensure there is no air in the complete system.

And yell at them for putting your life in danger

Thanks guys. I'm heading there now. I spoke to him briefly over the phone and he said that it's normal since the pedal will be more 'soft' after the caliper replacement. Something's definitely off though...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but new caliper, possibly pads, would make a stiffer, and more effective pedal.

Well, maybe it is normal for this particular shop for the brakes to be spongy after they work on them.

To be honest, the best of course of action is to take the car to another shop and have them check the work. Because I would have zero faith in the original shop's work. Not correctly bleeding the brakes, I could see happening. Passing off the resulting spongy brakes as normal is incompetent at best, and possibly even criminal as reduced braking = more risk.

I appreciate all the responses. So I took it to the original shop and the guy refused to bleed all the brakes saying that it wasn't necessary, and that I would be charged extra for it. So I took it to another shop, bled all the brakes, and it seems to be considerably better now.

I guess that shop doesn't get a lot of repeat customers when there is an issue after a "repair".

PM me the name of this shop, I'll send my Ministry friend out to check this guy out. If he is doing brake repairs not caring for safety, you gotta wonder what else he's doing...Bleeding not necessary after a caliper replacement? :sad

Wondering if he even bothered to test drive the vehicle, which is standard safety procedure before allowing the customer to take the vehicle.

I cannot believe the shop wouldn't look at the vehicle for free. That is really scary they put your life in danger as they would have known that there was air in the line once you described the situation. Take Flagrum_3 up on the offer for the safety of everyone.

Bleeding isn't necessary after caliper replacement? This shop should be put on blast.
