Hello All, the lease is up on our 2013 Mazda 3 Sport GS Skyactiv this coming May and I'm looking for some information and advice please.

Current payment is 278/month and the buy back at lease end is 10,800 plus that 300 fee and taxes. By the end of the lease it'll have approximately 90k on it and our allotment is 80k.

The car has been great but I've always felt like it was a tad underpowered and maybe undersized for me so I don't know whether I want to buy it out or return it and get something else. The other cars I would be looking at are the Mazda 3 GT, Mazda 6, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and the Subaru Legacy and new Impreza.

If I do decide to buy the car out am I still responsible for the extra kms charge or is that and wear and tear not a factor anymore? (Aside from very minor wear and tear scratches the car is in tip top shape).

Is the buyout price ever negotiable?

Would you buy it out or return it and get a new one?

Thanks in advance.

I can't speak much on the lease as I buy all my cars used off lease but if you have maintained this car and driven it respectfully then that is a huge plus. You won't care about the lower hp when the car costs you close to nothing to repair over the next 100000kms. I would imagine you won't pay a km penalty if you purchase it as it would be worth less then the agreed on price.

If you buy it, you don't have to pay the excess 10k km you put in the car. But if you're already having second thoughts in buying the car, then change cars. I'm sure you can negotiate the excess kms if you get another Mazda.

If you're prudent with money, then keep it until it dies.

The buyout isn't negotiable. When buying out wear and tear doesn't matter.
I feel you won't see a benefit by buying it out if your intention is to trade it or sell it. You buyout is on par with current retail values. It would be a good idea to fulfill your leasing commitment. Return the vehicle and utilize your Mazda loyalty on a new vehicle. We are talking just under $1000 penalty for the mileage.

Another note, if you are planning on financing the buyout...It will then be subject to 4.99% interest thus adding more cost to your vehicle.

Ensure you get your lease end inspection within 30 days of your lease return. Do it before you return the car. This way you will be prepared with any excess charges and be able to make a more informed decision. You can use it to have the discussion with your dealership.
