View Full Version : 2015 Mazda3 - hood shaking @ hwy speeds

Wondering if this is normal but my hood certainly moves up and down on speeds of 120+ kmph.. the flutter is very visible especially on windy hwy areas..

The passenger side doesn't seem as "flexible" but since I am always driving, I notice it most on driver side.

If I sit up higher and look even more down at the hood, the shake/flutter is very noticeable as if something is loose.

Dealer says everything is normal... As usual..

Any members notice the same behaviour?

I've noticed it on my fiancées 2011, but not on the speed. And I don't drive the 2014+ around enough to notice.

My 2010 did it and all I did was unscrew the rubber bumpers under the hood a little to put some preload on on it.

which dealer did you bring it to? Did you ask them to drive another car to compare?
my 2016 japan build doesn't do this

I brought it to Mazda of Toronto, the dealer I bought the car from.

They first tried to adjust the rubber bumpers and it made the hood way out of alignment to the fenders... I told them to fix it immediately.. so they went back to "normal" state...

Yeah I am not sure why it's doing it..

They won't let me drive another car as they say it's normal.. they said you shouldn't be driving 120+ as legal is 100. They are very good at excuses.

If you ever drive in the US the speed limit can be up to 80mph. That's a terrible excuse. Record the issue and complain to Mazda.

I asked, if you asked THEM to drive another car to compare... Not, you!

You can always call Mazda Canada or go to another dealer (such as New Roads) and have them take a look

Yeah I asked them and they said it's normal. Don't trust them though.

They said it's due to use of Aluminum material which is lite. They said CX5 has same issue (after research I noticed it's due to a different issue).

I'll give New Roads a try - hopefully more competent to properly diagnose and fix.

the hood is steel, it's NOT aluminum

you should know this since the hood is heavy

The more reason to trust them...

You recommend New Roads?

this happened to my friend, his hood would look like it was loose but when i checked it wouldnt budge. It would only move at the top where it bolts up. He doesnt have a skid plate so im assuming a large volume of air is getting trapped under the hood and its releasing the pressure anywhere it can. only happens on windy days

I would recommend New Roads, this is my home dealership. Their service department is pretty good IMO.
