Hey Everyone,

Similar to my luck in life my 2008 Mazda 3 GT is a month away from a emissions test and it threw up a CEL P1038. We barely drive the Mazda and the last time we drove it was 2 weeks ago. My wife took it out for a short trip and the CEL came on. She came home and told me about it so I took it for a drive (15km) or so and the CEL was still on. Turned the car off and back on and the CEL is now gone (3 drives later).

Today I borrowed my brother ODBC and it came up red with a P0138 (Pending). Just wondering why the CEL light went away and what could the issue be? The CEL is still off.

Thanks T

The O2 sensor could be getting a bit flaky. My recommendation to you would be to give the car an Italian tune-up since you don't use it too frequently. Wipe all the codes and take it in immediately for your E-test.

How do I wipe the code? My ODBC only reads them :(

Never immediately after wiping codes. You have to go through an entire cycle until your car will read "ready."

Or you can replace the O2 sensor at a trusted independent mechanic. Seems to be going.
Or buy your own obd2 scanner for $50 and wipe the code on your own.
Personally I’d get it fixed.

Picked up the part from Mazda and heading to Jimmy on Friday to get it swapped out. Hoping I don't swap it out and it does not get better.
