Mazda 3 2008 AT light with code PO841 with transmission issues

Hello and Thanks,

I have a Mazda 3 2008.5 GT 2.3L Auto with about 150,000km on it.

All of a sudden I started seeing the AT light go on and it would drop gears from 5 to 3, this happen seldom and I will point out it was cold outside -10 C

I brought it to a transmission place to talk about it in the town I was in at the time and they hooked it up to the machine and it gave a code of P0841

When I got back home I bought it to the local transmission they advised this is a common issue and to just move the Transmission Console Module as it will get to hot where it is located.

They moved it and this seems to work for about a week.

I was found that the warming the weather the worst it is.

I have not been back to the Transmission Shop as I have moved and there is only a Canadian Tire around here.

Now that the temp is warming a bit it is getting alot worst

Sometimes it will not show any gears and seems to be in a safe mode of Gear 3 or 4.

Or it will drop from 5 to 3 on the highway like before but much more often

I have a feeling that just replacing the Transmission Control Module will resolve the issue but i hear of horror stories of shops replacing the whole transmission

What does everything thing is the issue?

Hmmm I think this is one of those TCM rebuild issue

I was getting a different code than you and my car was going on limp mode as well (3rd gear only)

That was the code I recevied at the beginning of the issue, i am pretty sure I probably are having different codes now, no way to check currently.

Well I ordered for Ebay a used TCM and installed it today and so far the car is working perfectly. It would have gave me issues in this warm weather, 26 km driven so far. Will test more today but I think it is fixed.

What seller did you use? Price/time it took to get? I'm having the exact same issue with my 2010 mazda 3, dealer wants $950 for parts and labour lol... 630 for part but I'm thinking of just buying used and doing the job my self. How long did it take you to do?

Took about a week to receive from the States and it took me about 1 hour to replace.

Tranny is still working fine

This is what I searched for "07 08 09 MAZDA 3 TRANSMISSION CONTROL COMPUTER MODULE UNIT TCM"

My vehicle was the 2.3L so I got that said 2.3L
