Compass On Mazda Connect

I a 2016 Mazda3 Sport GT and enjoy it very much.

The one tiny irritation that I have with the car is that there is no compass with the navigation system. Sometimes it's convenient to know which direction one is driving. I know it is there, because your direction shows on the display if the nav. SD card is removed.

Is there a modification or setting that will allow the compass direction to display on the navigation (or another) screen?

there's MZD connect hacks to do this, but it doesn't work right with the latest versions of it, so don't dare try! I thought I saw a mini compass on the map, but I don't remember... I don't use it often
I'm installing Apple CarPlay/Android Auto kit soon as it's way better than the stock nav anyway
