Hey folks, I've gone through a bunch of search results and haven't found anything specifically on this. I'm considering getting HIDs on my 2007 3 hatch and was wondering if I managed to find a couple OEM HID headlight assemblies, if I could swap those in place of my halogens and if it would be a simple plug-and-play, without having to go through getting all the relays and whatnot. I know my MY isn't affected by the DRL mod thankfully.

Is that a feasible option? Would it make more sense to get an aftermarket kit? I'm wary of being one of those jerks that blind others with poorly-aimed setups so I figured an OEM HID assembly would be a safer option. Any insights? Thanks!

I suppose I should add, would it even be worth it just to stick with the halogens and just invest in the brightest bulbs I can find?

I thought about going HID ...still thinking ....but in the meantime i went LED Front
(DRL LED not possible right now...i think they are working on something that will work easily PNP)
and rear tail brake too...with reverse too...Front LED aim different than halogens and I require
to be realigned upwards a tiny bit...

How do you find the light output is for the LED low beams? I've heard the way they send out light is not ideal for headlight use.

i would agree... they are aimed lower and depended on LED manufacturer may not project like a HID.

Im using these , Korean LED Chips. (50W) with a heat sink.
Im not a fan of the bulbs that have fans to cool off LED Bulb (100W).
Fan fails headlight plastic melts .
Brake LEDs i cannot remember what i am using ...thru out packaging
3rd brake i may upgrade from LED bulb to LED panel from RacingBees

Yes you can swap the OEM halogens for OEM hid.

No it won't be plug and play from halogen wiring to your OEM hid.

The oem hid ballasts will need a special plug for it to work with your halogen wiring.

Just remember to remove your DRL fuse.

See here for an example: http://www.oemxenonshop.com/Mazda3-Xenon-Headlight-Fix-OEM-Ballast-Bulb-Igniter-Replacement.html

I would suggest swapping in the OEM hid headlights, and then consider buying aftermarket HID kit with OEM philips D2S bulb and dedicated relay harness - depending upon the kit (if it's mazda3 specific), it can be plug and play, provided it has a H7 connector attached to the relay harness.

Thank you very much for your insights! Not quite as straightforward of a swap as I had hoped, but not an insurmountable task either. Cheers!
