Hi guys,
My car has a bit less than 8000km on it and just randomly on April 5th it started throwing the generic Master Warning light on the dash. It's persistent and has been staying on
So I scanned DTC code with some cheap OBD2 scanner off amazon and car scanner app and it caught a DTC P05A0-00 code which is supposedly a problem on the Air Shutter Grille vents.. so then I took a look thru the lower air hole in front of the car and noticed the vents are shut closed.
So then I cleaned debris and some leaves in the hole and it did not fix my problem. Also I am noticing my gas milage to be averaging around 20L/100KM and I used to get 8-10L/100km with mostly city driving. I have booked appointment with the dealer but they should fix this under warranty right? This is my first Mazda, not sure if electronic issues are common aha.. I can't find too much online with other ppl having this same type of issue.. also apparanty this air shutter grille is only part of tech package in Mazda's? (Mine is GT so I have it) but the lower tier Mazda 3's won't even have this component lol

I also tried running the AC to see if my vents were opening at all and checked while the car is idling... not sure if that would work but my vents did not open.
Any troubleshooting tips or even what shud i tell the dealer tips wud be appreciated.

im sure you know

What it means:
The P05A0 code signifies a problem with the Active Grille Air Shutter system. This system helps regulate engine cooling by controlling airflow through the grille.

Possible causes:

Actuator Issues: The actuator, which is responsible for opening and closing the shutter, might be malfunctioning. (you are under warranty)

Obstructions: Debris or other obstructions could be physically preventing the shutter from moving correctly. Dead bird , raccoon or you need find a better place to stash your cash :)

Software Issues: In some cases, the P05A0 code can be stored in the PCM due to software glitches, even if the shutter itself is working. (see mazda dealer you under warranty )

Hi everyone, I had a quick look into code P05A0 on a 2023 Mazda 3 GT and here's what I found — might be useful before you go to the dealer:

The P05A0 code means the Active Grille Air Shutter (upper shutter) is malfunctioning — often stuck or can’t operate properly.

Common causes: shutter actuator failure, wiring/connector issues, or the shutter being physically blocked.

A known issue (documented by a service bulletin for older Mazda3/CX‑30) shows sometimes the shutter works but PCM flags P05A0 anyway due to software detection sensitivity.

What you can do:

Visually inspect the grille area for debris or damage.

Ask the dealer to check actuator, wiring harness and the shutter mechanism.

If under warranty — this likely should be covered, since you’re so new on kms.

If you want, I can share a PDF that explains technical details of P05A0 for 2022‑2023 Mazda3 (some people find it handy at the dealer).

Also if any of you are travelling to/from Sudbury or need transport here’s a link to my Sudbury Airport Taxi Services in Toronto (https://torontopearsonairporttaxi.ca/sudbury-airport-taxi/): Sudbury Airport Taxi Services in Toronto

Safe travels and good luck with the fix!
