Went in on Saturday to get my winters taken off and the alloys put back on. I mentioned below that I decided on swapping the stock Proxes tires for a set of HydroEdge tires. First off that was a good move. The HydroEdge is a much nicer all round tire and the cornering performance is way up. The car just grips going around corners now and feels so much more stable. Highway driving is good and the noise level is as expected. I got the 205-60-R15\'s so they are a bit lower profile and you can feel the bumps a bit more, but it\'s worth it.
Now for the OOPS!!!
My wife and I went out yesterday to her dad\'s place in Niagara on the Lake, we\'re in Dundas. We stopped by her grandmother\'s place, in St. Catharines, to pick her up and drive her over to Easter dinner. I guess on the way over, granny heard some noise from the front end. I never noticed anything myself, but she did. She never said anything because she didn\'t find it alarming, just odd. When we got to the dad\'s we discovered she forgot something and my wife took her back to her house to get it. On the way I guess Granny mentioned the noise and my wife noticed it. It was coming from the passenger side front end and was more noticeable when turning. When she got back to her dad\'s she called me out to have a look and what did I find...A missing friggin lug nut on the passenger front wheel...And of course it was the locking lug nut that was gone! I thought \"Holy Crap!\" that was a close one. My father-inlaw came out and we grabbed the wrench from the trunk and he checked the rest of the lug nuts on that wheel and they were all loose. They weren\'t spin off loose, but had room to be tightened. He tightened them down and we replaced the missing one with one of the spares that we had from using the locking lug nuts. We also checked all the other wheels and everything seemed ok. I\'m planning on double checking them this morning, I have a torque wrench, but not a thingy (sorry to early) to fit the lugnut. I\'ll use the one in the car and check them that way. I plan on calling the tire place this morning and having a chat. I expect them to replace the locking lugnut for me and give me a big fat apology. It could have been a lot worse if it wasn\'t for granny forgetting something. We wouldn\'t have noticed the problem into we left and it would have been late or worse we could have been on the highway when another lugnut let go or maybe two. Actually thinking about that, I hope the lugnut didn\'t do any damage to anyone\'s car, house, animal, person, as it flew off....Christ!!! The place was so busy on Saturday...I know now to double check them all the time!!!
BTW any chance there was damage done to anything?? The car felt fine going home and the lugnuts went on fine and tightened fine. The wheel wasn\'t loose when you tried to shake it, so it wasn\'t that bad...
Thanks,
Rich
