Scrape on Rear Bumper/Body Panel
I let my girlfriend take my 3 out for a spin, and she ended up backing up into a car.
There is a scrape roughly 3 cm in diameter exposing plastic and metal on my rear bumper/body panel.
She has agreed to pay for the repairs (even though I will be helping her out). I got it quoted at two local body shops, it will cost $550 to repair.
How feasible would it be to complete the repair myself?
What steps would be involved and what would I need to fix the scratch/scrape?
I apologize if this is the wrong forum section.

Post a picture of the damage...
Re: Scrape on Rear Bumper/Body Panel
Unless you've had experience in doing body work you will be in for a whole world of disappointment. If the damage is bad that the scratch went through the paint to the body work and plastic then you have a whole lot of sanding. Smoothing out the finish then re-applying the two stage paint and clear cloat.
If you're game and up for give it a shot. However do not get your hopes up. If you can live with that then go for it. Post pics through the process.

Post a picture. You can DIY. It won't look as good though, obviously. lol
I did my first body repair a couple of weeks ago and it turned out really good considering I had zero experience before that.

That should buff right out!
Re: Scrape on Rear Bumper/Body Panel
A little bit of crazy glue and some crayons should fix that up nicely! :whoa
Re: Scrape on Rear Bumper/Body Panel
My advice: Just pay the $550. If you don't already know how to tackle that (and have the appropriate equipment), then you'll never get it to look like new on your own.

How did she ending hitting the front of the car if she was backing up? Also that is way more than a "scratch/scrape". I would have a body shop so the repairs.

Re: Scrape on Rear Bumper/Body Panel
For my scratch (see my box http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/sh...ad.php?t=28207) I plan to get it done by an autoshop..most likely Keele Auto Collison but I'll see.... I got a quote from a dealer collison center for $300 to sand blast and re-paint and clearcoat that area of $600 for the entire bumper. It also depends on if lease...how long you plan to keep it for kind of thing.
