Paintjob horror story.....kinda.
Hey TM3,
I'm new here and this is my first post.
And I'd figure I'd start it off with a little something that just happened to me (my Mazda) recently.
And I'm sorry its gonna be a long one.
So it started with winter last year. Had my car parked in my driveway. The temperature got a little warm so the ice on the roof decided it was a good idea to fall on the hood of my car....GREAT thing to find before work at 5:45 in the morning. So there were about 6-8 dents dead center on my hood. So i decided to leave it for a bit. Then when it got to the summer... i got rear-ended by a cabbie. I was very lucky. i was the first car rolling to a red light so i was sitting on the clutch. and all of a sudden my sunglasses are on the dashboard, and I'm just rattled, and managed to stop before getting pushed into the intersection. i get out and i look at the Lincoln town car...expecting the worst. and his bumper was destroyed at the sides. and i look at my car....and luckily. i only have the mark of the screw on his license plate and the paint from the numbers. so i went to get it fixed....cause heck...i didn't have to pay for it right? WRONG. i went to Mazda Ajax. and there referred me to a place called "Durham Top Quality" TOP QUALITY MY @$$:bang!!!!!!! NEVER GO THERE. They assured me my car would look like new and the hood would cost me $500. I came back 2 days later, rushing from work and its 3:20 and they're closed.:chuckle Just my luck. They told me they'd be open. So i called and said they were sending a guy. So while I'm waiting with the VERY nice lady from Discount Rentals i start looking for my car....and i found it alright. locked in the cage out back but i could see it. The hood was a completely different colour than the car.

The lady kept trying to reassure me that it was the angle the light was hitting it. Nope. AND there was a mosquito in the clear coat. AND There were drips that you wouldn't believe.

^^^^those were the small ones.
and they were gonna release this car to me. So i complained and made them keep the car and redo it and they payed for the rental. and then they made me come back during work. and i showed up and the colour was close. But there were still drips and tape lines it was brutal :bang:bang:bang. i couldn't believe it. so i complained... and that's when he called me a "f***ing idiot". and "I'm being a stupid child", cause apparently i look like a young dumb child (21...not sooo young). so since he wouldn't deal with me and MY car. i had to call my dad and he had to deal with him. which is really ridiculous and embarrassing. so then i realize that he had sent the rental car driver away. and i was left to take a taxi back to work (irony if i say so......since i got rear ended by one) and then come back again.....and had to pay this guy for him shotty work unless i wouldn't get my keys. so i went to Mazda Ajax and showed them the work and they wanted to send the car back to them for me and pay my rental. but i denied. i really didn't want them touching my car again. so now I'm stuck with a few tape lines. a little discolouration and when i went to clean my car the bondo dust and over spray ALL OVER MY CAR..and now almost a year later, the grill paint is peeling! yay... yup. just my luck.
So the moral of this story.
I suggest staying away from Durham Top Quality
Horrible people.

Thanks i'll keep that in mind. i was almost thinking of a new hood completely. OH, and the best part i forgot. There are still dents in the hood... but not the original ones....but because they don't know how to do bondo......water actually pools on my hood

What is that symbol above your grill?
If you want good Collision repair, I support BMC. They did a great job on my car.
Re: Paintjob horror story.....kinda.
probably one thing you can do now is call your insurance company and raise hell about it... tell them you don't trust this shop anymore and that you want to go to another one and to have that shop send the bill to durham top quality

Re: Paintjob horror story.....kinda.
Is it shocking to say I see work like that almost every 2nd day? There are soooo many bad body shops out there....
Re: Paintjob horror story.....kinda.
^ +1 I have had my share of poor experiences.
I'm confident however that when my car goes into Uni it will come out great.

This shop is one of our preferred body shops (I work in Insurance) I think it won top body shop in Canada or something a few times. I have never brought my car there, but I know a lot of customers who did and had a good experience. They need to do great work to be one of our preferred shops.
Re: Paintjob horror story.....kinda.
It actually won top body shop in North America 2 times in the last 10 yrs , Preffered shop by over 25 insurance companies and they are the body shop for Westowne Mazda.
Re: Paintjob horror story.....kinda.
Wow, that is the worst work I have ever seen done before that didn't include someone trying to do it themselves in their garage... So sorry to hear about your experience and you should take them to small claims court to get your money back. You will win easily due to obvious negligence...
