Haldimand Motors in Cayuga
For those of you who are still looking for a car, but don't want to exactly pay Mazda dealership prices, then I know my own experience with a volume seller, comparable to GTA Fine Cars.
They are Haldimand Motors located in Cayuga, south of Hamilton, 25 minutes away.
I bought my Mazda 3 from them, and I really haven't had any major issues. Yes, I recently did replace my struts, but I did drive the car for 2 months without issues before that happened. Sometimes luck just shows up. Do keep in mind they are a volume seller, which has it's good's and bad's. The goods being cheaper price, and bad's is not exactly all Mazda genuine parts, ie windshield wipers, brake pads (not cheap ones, but non-oem).
However, they are great. They offer no hassles at all, and if you notice something you don't like about your car, you can ask them to fix it before you sign the contract and they will, including brand new all-season tires. Not your bridgestones or Michelin, but not too bad.
In addition, if after you purchase the car and you find out things you dont like about it, mostly things that are obvious and clearly wrong, then you start to you keep a list, and bring it back within the month. They'll fix it for you. I got a bunch of stuff replaced, not because they weren't functional, but they looked old. lol
30 day mechanical NON-BS warranty. Many dealers do claim this, but as soon as you go to them, many will try to cut corners. These guys took my Mazda to a Mazda dealership to inspect something I wanted. Good stuff.
They do have a one price policy, but if you look around, they are usually very good. The price of the car is the price you pay. Period. Add taxes, and that's it.

Indeed. They are super friendly, and the whole environment is relaxed. No pressure.
One thing I forgot to mention was their 'extended' warranty. I chose not to get it because I still had 25k km worth of powertrain warranty from Mazda. Anyway, it looks pricey, BUT it's worth every penny. Most of the time they will take the car to the manufacturer dealership (ie a Mazda dealership, GM dealership etc).
They are definitely doing something right.
Re: Haldimand Motors in Cayuga
I got my 3 from them in Dec 2009. 35k after I have not had anything major. Their prices are non-negotiable, but they do not give you trouble if you ask something to be replaced / fixed. In my case they replaced the rotors and the brake pads.
Basically they are pretty straight forward guys.
Re: Haldimand Motors in Cayuga
I went to Haldimand Motors today. The staff there are so friendly and absolutely no pressure to buy. I walk in the door and was greeted politely. They asked me which car I was interested in, took a photo copy of my license and handed me the keys along with a plate. I could have taken that car to TO and back, it had half a tank of gas. When I came back I explained to Mike all the issues I had with the car and he assured me that everything would be taken care of if I decided to purchase. I told him I would be back tomorrow with my wife and he gave me a printout of the car with the final selling price. He told me that the staff work as a team so that if he is not available that someone else would be glad to help me. My experience was nothing but positive.
Re: Haldimand Motors in Cayuga
Definitely on board here. Bought my 2009 3 GT from Haldimand this weekend. I don't actually have it in hand yet as it takes about a week for them to prep the vehicle, service it, and clean it, so for now I can only comment on their sales ideology. Letting the buyer browse freely and without hassle, coupled with solo test drives. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Zero pressure including the sales stage. I didn't try to haggle, but I also didn't get hard-sold on any upsells. I did buy the one year $1300 warranty, but I knew I would before I walked onto the lot. I'll be driving this car 4 hours a day for the next few months and I can't afford any downtime.
I was asked to give input into anything the mechanics should pay close attention to while prepping my purchase this week.
Very solid experience. Recommended from that standpoint alone. I'll probably come back to do a followup once I've had experience with their service department (or not, hopefully haha)
Re: Haldimand Motors in Cayuga
To follow up, I guess the only negative thing I have to say is that the communication post-sale is kind of iffy. That is to say, I'm still waiting for my car to be ready and I've had to follow up numerous times with the salesperson and I still can't get them to nail down a day when I can pick it up. This wouldn't be a big deal except I work in Toronto and driving to Cayuga on a moment's notice to pick up a car isn't something I can swing very easily.
I'm not upset or anything, but I guess that's one thing I wish they were a little better on. Giving me a firm date for when my car will be ready for me to pick up.
