TM3 Fantasy Basketball League
Hey guys,
With the NBA pre-season underway, and regular season starting the end of this month, it's time for me to get back into my annual fantasy league involvement. I was wondering if there was enough interest to do a TM3 league. I think it'd be fun!
So, here's a call-out to anyone that would be interested in joining a fantasy basketball league. If we can get enough interest, I'd be happy to setup and manage a league for us. Regardless of experience/skill, if interested, join up!
The specifics for the league are definitely open to suggestions, but based on past experience, I was thinking the following:
League would be done under Yahoo Fantasy Sports (No account? No worries! It's an easy process.)
Scoring Type: Rotisserie
Max Teams: 12
Min Teams: 6 (I've done as low as 6 before, and it wasn't as exciting as 8,10,12. The more the better!)
Draft: Live Standard Draft (To avoid missing out on week 1 of the league, we would have to have the draft before Tuesday October 30th. We can decide on specific day/time once interest has been generated.)
Roster Positions: PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, C, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN
Players Stat Categories: Field Goal Percentage, Free Throw Percentage, 3-point Shots Made, Points Scored, Total Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Blocked Shots, Turnovers
Hoping to get some feedback soon (would ideally like everything setup in a couple weeks). Next steps would be me creating our private league, you guys joining, and then deciding on a draft day/time.

Sweet; keep 'em coming guys!
Best case scenario would be to hit 12 members :)
Once we hit 6, I'll make the league and post details on here for you guys to join.

Re: TM3 Fantasy Basketball League
Why couldn't we do this with a sport I have some clue about? Like.. anything but the NBA lol.
It's entirely free, right? Are the Raptors still good? ._.

I'd love to do a fantasy hockey league...but the lockout is making it difficult for me :loco

Re: TM3 Fantasy Basketball League
im no basketball guru but the craptors are all i got right now...the leafs would still be shit but i love hockey :'(
-
Re: TM3 Fantasy Basketball League
Well personally, the NBA is pretty much the only sport I consistently follow lol
I do imagine the lockout would kinda make it a tad difficult doing a fantasy league for hockey :P
As far as the fee goes; yes this is completely free!
And the Raps are showing a little more promise this season compared to last (or maybe it's just me having false hope for my home team again, as I find I'm the only one that's still supporting them!) so we'll see just how crap they turn out to be.

I was looking for a league, as the guys who usually set up the leagues I'm in aren't doing it this year. Sounds great!

I'm already doing an NFL one with my work but you're right I am surprised we don't have a TM3 one going. Either way I'm looking forward to our NBA league now...
Anyone have any suggestions on an app for iPhone that Ill be able to update my rosters with?

Yahoo typically has their own app for each fantasy league type

Re: TM3 Fantasy Basketball League
Alright guys, here's a link to the league:
http://basketball.fantasysports.yaho...d=ILoveMyMazda
Alternately, if link doesn't work for some reason, you can also search for the league yourselves:
League ID#: 72562
League Name: TM3 Fantasy Basketball
Password: ILoveMyMazda
Right now I've arbitrarily setup the draft for a live draft October 29th, at 9:00PM. I guess we can have a vote on here a bit later on if this suits everyone, and if not, when to do it.
Also, if anyone has any issues with the league settings as they stand right now (ie. waiver time, etc) please let me know and we can also vote on that issue as a group as well.

I just joined.
EDIT - 29th is a monday, which is good for me.

I find it can definitely be more fun, but sometimes gets bitter too lol. Rotisserie seems more fair as far as deserving wins go. But I do agree, H2H provides more of a competitive feel.
But I'm definitely down for either.
What'd you guys think?
For those that are unfamiliar, Wiki to the rescue..

Rotisserie
In rotisserie scoring, the real-life statistics accumulated by the players on a team are aggregated and ranked against the same statistics for the other teams in the league. Fantasy points are earned based on these rankings. For example, in a twelve-team league, the team with the highest number of rebounds over the course of the season to date would be awarded twelve fantasy points. The team with the next highest number of rebounds would be awarded eleven fantasy points, and so on, with the team with the fewest number of rebounds being awarded a single fantasy point. For negative categories like fouls or turnovers, the team with the fewest statistics are awarded the most fantasy points. This is done for all categories counted by the particular league. The team with the highest number of fantasy points at the end of the season is the winner.
Rotisserie scoring encourages balance on the team's roster. Winning the rebounds category by one rebound or by one thousand rebounds counts the same, while winning the steals category by one steal and the assists category by one assist is worth twice as many points as winning the single rebounding category by one thousand rebounds. Successful teams must fare well in several categories to win in rotisserie leagues.
Head-to-head
In head-to-head scoring, teams compete against a single other team over the course of a week. During that week, the real-life statistics of the players on each team are accumulated, and at the end of the week the team with the most points over the week wins.
There are two styles of head-to-head scoring:
Most categories is a win—whichever team has the more favorable statistics in the categories chosen (most points, fewest turnovers, highest free throw percentage, etc.) is awarded a point for that category. One can also weight each category, for example: winning scoring earns you three points, winning rebounds wins you two points, winning steals wins you one point. The team with the most points wins that game.
Each category is a win—whichever team has the more favorable statistics in a category (most points, fewest turnovers, highest free throw percentage, etc.) is awarded a "win" for that category. The other team is tagged with a "loss". The results of these weekly matchups are accumulated to provide a seasonal win-loss record.
Head-to-head leagues often employ a "playoff" system, with seeding based on the seasonal win-loss record. Matchups are determined via a bracket, with the winners of each matchup advancing and the losers being eliminated until a winner is determined.
In Head to Head leagues, schedules can be changed in the time up to the first game of that matchup.

Re: TM3 Fantasy Basketball League
I've played H2H before and wouldn't mind doing it again but some people may want to keep the ROTO-9CAT style due to its ease of use.
