Is central console power outlet more powerful than cigarette lighter?
Disclaimer: I'm a noob.
I have an 2007 Mazda 3 i Sport 4D, auto
I think my phone charges more slowly when I connect it to the cigarette lighter power outlet than when I connect it to the central console outlet. Is this normal? Is the central arm console really more powerful than the cigarette lighter outlet or am I imagining this?
Re: Is central console power outlet more powerful than cigarette lighter?
Might have a slightly lower voltage due different route through the wiring harness to the battery. Both are fused for 15A so the wire gauges should be the same. But I can't see a phone charger pulling enough current for it to make a difference anyway.
Re: Is central console power outlet more powerful than cigarette lighter?
Considering that the phone likely takes 5 volts and the car's power is 12, the voltage difference isn't an issue. And there's no way a phone can pull in 12v x 15a = 180 watts, so... you're probably imagining it. Unless you're using different chargers in each socket, in which case the problem is the charger.

Got it. Thanks for the responses!
