Oil Change Question From a Newbie
Can I assume that if I buy a certified pre owned mazda that they have done the OIL change for me before delivering the car or I should do the oil change now that I have driven it for 2000 kilometers..?
just got the car 1 month ago..
any feed back would be appreciated even the folks at the dealership..
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
No harm in calling the dealer up and asking?
Can't comment on whether they change the oil before you drive it off, though it'd just be good practice to but personally, a $35-$40 ($70 if it's a speed or you feel like using sythetic?) oil change is well worth the peace of mind to me.
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
Use the dipstick to verify if it needs changing.
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
I'd just change it out and be absolutely sure about it.

Dipstick won't tell you if the oil is old
Doesn't hurt to do a fresh oil change. Especially if it's preowned, it might have been sitting for a long time minus a few short city test drives.
Also get PETRO ULTRA gas for the first couple fill-ups as it might have been sitting for some time. It doesn't hurt and can only extend the life of your car
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
Just ask them. Don't assume.

@416GXM3 if you got it from a dealer and they are online i can check. send me the vin or post it here and tag me in the reply.
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
A corporate requirement of selling a Mazda Certified Pre-Owned vehicle includes catching the vehicle up on Mazda recommended maintenance.
It would be a safe bet that they did do it. For peace of mind, you should call them to verify. Alternatively, you can PM me your VIN and I can check Mazda history on it tomorrow.

My understanding is that engine oil now days don't "go bad" after a few months. It is really the kilometers that really matters, in which case, you can tell by looking at the dipstick.
Also no point in getting higher octane gas because it isn't "cleaner" or burn more efficiently. Regular is just as good. Higher octane gas is for engines with higher compression ratios to obtain more power.
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
how much kilometers do you have on the odometer? scheduled maintenance follows on the milage of the vehicle. but even then its not certain if that oil has been sitting there for months if the car has been sitting on the lot outside for a long time. plus short drives to move the car from lot to lot not allowing the car to warm up properly during transport can mean that the oil has absorbed some moisture over time.
Re: OIL CHANGE QUESTION FROM A NEWBIE
right now i have 78, 600 i got the car at 77, 096 ...
Re: Oil Change Question From a Newbie
open up your owners manual and there should be a section called scheduled maintenance (north america). my 04 manual has it under chapter 8 subsection 3. some members above will have a more accurate detailed history report since they have access to it. as jackal said, dont assume. something as important as oil can either make or break the engine.
plus, its a good time to decide if you want to switch over to a preferred brand of oil and change over to synthetic.
Re: Oil Change Question From a Newbie
Change it bro, better to be safe then sorry, I've heard so many horror stories of people neglecting their oil. If you do it yourself, make sure your somewhere kinda warm, like 15 degrees. Don't do it in a cold garage or outside lol
Re: Oil Change Question From a Newbie
thanks for the info and suggestions TM3 .. i called them and confirmed that as part of the CPO, they had to change oil and the filter and they used synthetic. I will do the oil change again based on the schedule which is 80k and possibly rotate the tires.
Thanks again everyone for the help.
