I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
I'm in a fight with MazdaCanada as I have warranty on the My Mazdaspeed3 2013
the car is around 53K and have following symptoms after Toronto Mazda did transmission overhaul in march last year.
- Clunking noise when change gear:bang
- Kicking back and forth when changing gear even when the RPM is higher than 1500 on the next gear:bang
- On a cold start when I release the clutch the car moves froward around 10 inches :bang
Does everyone have all of these symptoms on their car?:(
I had this car since it was brand new and right now its nothing like when it was brand new.:bang
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
Had similar issue when shifting.
1) switch tranny fluid to redline MTL
2) make sure fluid levels are topped up (brake)
3) ensure clutch is all the way down when cold shifting almost have to granny shift.
4) start you car in neutral if moving then something is still messed up.
How damn low are you shifting if you're saying high than 1500? I shift no lower than 2700 ever.
Do these noises happen only when cold or when they happen when warm aswell
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
Clunking noise when changing gear is a normal problem with the GenPU's
i have 2010, and i have the same clunking noise. Im going in for a tranny fluid change to the Ford fluid (forgot to the part number)
and a change will help fix that problem.
on the car moving forward, maybe check out your master cylinder, if the clutch feels sticky.
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
While some people use the ford fluid in the genpu, its a different viscosity than whats recomended (change between gen1/2) for unkown reason. Some people run ford fluid without issue while most I've seen seem to recommend sticking with new viscosity given by Mazda and get redline MTL instead for the gen2

I'm no magic transmission scientist, but I bet the reasons have to do with the different gearing between first and second generations.

Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
theres also a 6 speed additive for the transmission fluid that should be put in when they put the transmission fluid back in so check if that helps with the noise if you get them to change the fluid again.
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
The clunking is inescapable. It's highly possible that they put a wrecker tranny in your car that has more miles on it. I use MotylGear 75w90 and it treats my synchros well. You might want to have a look at all your engine mounts, too, make sure there's no excessive play.
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
How bout try and check the LSD mounts? I read this somewhere in mazdaspeed forums. Got me paranoid because of the 1st to 2nd gear change clunks.
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
I've had 2 different speed3's since 2010 and both of them clunked and chunked and made all kinds of noises.....especially when cold and in the winter. Do you know anyone else with a Speed that could compare cars?
Re: I Need Help (Clunking Noise When Changing Gear)
its really common for speed3 to have a clunking noise lol how bad is it?
and have you change the RMM (rear motor mount)? mine went away after changing that and Tranny flushed/changed.
