Yes they are reliable as long as you are smart. Make sure to upgrade the fuel pump and get an access port.
Cooling down the turbo is not necessary in the stock turbo unless you are at a racetrack. You can always buy a turbo timer.
Re: Hey speed3 owners!!!!
Leave it stock and it'll be as reliable as a normal mazda 3 with just ever so slightly higher running costs (needs premium fuel, oil changes are a bit more, etc).
Re: Hey speed3 owners!!!!
Do oil change on time and the car will run fine

Re: Hey speed3 owners!!!!
I have had my speed for 3 years and had no issues just regular oil changes. As long as you don't be the shit out of it all the time it will last

Re: Hey speed3 owners!!!!
I will have owned my Speed3 for 10 years as of this October. I had the throttle body replaced under warranty, had to replace the A/C compressor last summer (corroded), replaced leaky rear shocks with Bilsteins, replaced a broken rear spring with ProKits, replaced warped rotors with Centric slotted rotors, and I'm just now starting to see a bit of rust in the usual area where the rear bumper meets the fender. For 10 years and over 160k, I've been very happy.
Re: Hey speed3 owners!!!!
Got my speed as a demo 7 years ago. It was beaten up to the point that I got it and continues to get beaten to this day(about 155k kms). Make sure that when/if you modify, to change out that HPFP first. I over maintain the car with 2000km oil changes(because I can). Replaced the valve cover gasket last year and the internals of the motor were as silver as they left the factory. I repair everything as needed and don't let anything drag on. Cannot comment on suspension as I have had a few different setups installed. Brakes, I stick with OEM. least amount of issues this way. Knock on wood the car has not let me down
