That's some wheel spinning torque numbers! lmao... I thought you would have got a higher HP number with the BNR but still awesome.
Post a VD or dynojet results :)
picking up the car in an hour hopefully! just looking for a ride :chuckle
WOW!!!!!!!!!! This car is a f*ckin ROCKET!!!!!!!! I have the Dyno sheet, the car makes exactly 348.7WHP... as for the torque, i guess brian was incorrect at 390...she's making 414WTQ!!!!!!!
Drove all the way to barrie (school) just now and it drives perfect, i checked the meth tank and it has less than a quarter left :p I have 3 jugs of meth at home, but those are $12 each, what is the most conservative way to make methanol at home? I have seen people use washer fluid but I've heard that shit could mess up the car..
The car is tuned for meth to inject @10psi. And tuned for 94 octane
Thanks for all the help guys :)
(on my phone, will post pictures when I'm home)
I'm really happy the car is working well for you. Regarding home-brew methanol........ do you understand any of this stuff?
If the answer is no, don't attempt to make methanol at home. The result will be more harmful to your wallet and health than blowing up your engine. I'm a chemical engineer and I wouldn't do it.Quote:
To make methanol, you need first to create synthesis gas, which has carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas as its main components.
Conventional steam reforming is the simplest and most widely practiced route to synthesis gas production:
2 CH4 + 3 H2O -> CO + CO2 + 7 H2 (Synthesis Gas)
CO + CO2 + 7 H2 -> 2 CH3OH + 2 H2 + H2O
This process results in a considerable hydrogen surplus, as can be seen.
If an external source of CO2 is available, the excess hydrogen can be consumed and converted to additional methanol. The most favorable gasification processes are those in which the surplus hydrogen is “burnt” to water, during which steam reforming is accomplished through the following partial oxidation reaction:
CH4 + ½O2 -> CO + 2 H2 -> CH3OH
CH4 + O2 -> CO2 + 2 H2
The carbon dioxide and hydrogen produced in the last equation would then react with an additional hydrogen from the top set of reactions to produce additional methanol. This gives the highest efficiency, but may be at additional capital cost.
I'll be honest. I tried to make sense of those equations logically, and I was still like WTF. Especially the part where it said, "as you can see from above, you will have surplus methanol" or something like that. What am I looking for! Haha @Aitch that all makes sense to you? Damn
haha ya i didnt wanna have to even attempt to learn that lol.
driving the car tonight was a blast, installed the rallye 3 belts too :) was going to install my momo team wheel, but i realized the NRG hub bore is too small to fit the momo horn... NRG lied to me! *******s lol... so im going to have to return the hub and purchase the momo one. and for you guys who are about to say "why didnt u buy the momo hub in the first place if your using a momo wheel"? look at the nrg then the mom and you can see the diffrence, NRG offers a shorter hub which looks cleaner IMO.. the momo one has that classic look that your used to seeing in honda civics.
forgot to post this in honor of @Fack_Dude ...
"to all of you who said i couldnt do it, or said i wouldnt be able to start my engine... FACK YOU!!!"
:)
buy methanol at a chemical company. they sell it in large jugs/barrels and will last you a long time (99% grade), and its cheap.
"we sell 18L pails – they are $48.75/pail (2.71/L)"

Only 350 HP? Most guys make that on spring pressure.
Amazing! Congrats!
So you wanna make meth? Enlist the pros.http://rack.3.mshcdn.com/media/ZgkyM...-Season-51.jpg
Heard that you're making 350whp on 23PSI and 12-13* timing. That's pretty reasonable IMO.
I thought this was weird too... There must be something that can be addressed.
Just some food for thought because I have seen similar set-ups with BNR making higher HP numbers so I'm not sure what the deal is here.
They are good numbers but something doesn't seem right comparing data (94/meth/BNR/built motor) but I could be wrong lol... The torque number is a monster so I don't know why the BNR is running out of breathe up top, its not a K04 lol...
At the end of the day who cares what the kid got. At least he's up and running.
A built motor doesn't make power all its own UNLESS the head is ported. Even then, you'll make more power on the top end than anywhere else. Built motors ALLOW you to make power... all else equal.
Fobio informed me that the motor is tuned to 23PSI at 12-13* timing up top. That's super conservative and I personally would venture to run that on straight pump gas BUT I would tone down the torque to 370ft-lbs or so because the engine would knock otherwise. That being said, don't try to run without meth :)
In short. Given the boost/timing inputs, you're making decent numbers. I don't like the torque profile but that's just preference on my end. Towards the top, the power drop off would be noticeable enough that the car would feel slow. I'd say you'd have a lot more fun at a flat 350-360ft-lbs run to redline than your current powerband. At 414wtq, you can't even get good grip in 3rd gear.
@mikey32235 @BlueStreak
I thought he has a VCTS delete and PNP intake manifold (maybe mikey can tell us that information) which it not close to head work but still a start.
The head is still the limiting factor. Isn't the real benefit to the PNP IM the more balanced flow? I'm sure there's a gain, but not huge.
From what I read upon, the PNP manifold gives you better airflow but you only notice the diffrence or get gains from that once u tune for it. Otherwise just port the intake. I'm happy that the car is running, it's in great shape and pulls hard through every gear, i got great tires and i did push it last night from a 40 roll till 200, and the only wheelspin I got was a little bit in the top rpm"s in 2nd, but 3-5th absolutely no spin, very surprised, but satisfied :) I'm definately looking into the fluid low indicator for my meth kit. Is that something I'm going to have to tap into the SP resivoir? And I'm also looking into a safe injection indicator.
Thanks guys :)
What tires?
does anyone know what kind of washer fluid is a 50/50 mix of methyl hydrate? @loki
Blue stuff from Walmart
found 2 barrels at work we use for the shop, on the top its says concentrate 50, water 50... and best of all its blue. assuming that will work? @loki
What are you currently running? 50/50? If you're running 100% meth and go down to 50/50, you need a retune.
What size nozzle? This will indicate the current dependency on meth that your tune has and how you should approach changing meth mixes.
Also, about not getting wheel spin with 414wtq. Something is up. At that tq in 3rd gear, you should get nothing but wheel spin at peak torque (circa 3800RPMs). There is no way any tire on the market can grip that on the street. Heck, in these temperatures, gripping that in 4th is hit or miss.
In 4th gear, the car should pull so hard at peak tq that its difficult to keep the car tracking straight in the lane. Ask me how I know :P
How do you know @BlueStreak
I have no grip in 3rd with rs3's with 353lbs-ft
Haha. I was hoping to keep that rhetorical.
I'm at a flat 370-380wtq all the way to 6K RPMs and I can't keep my car pointed straight for the life of me. At most I can keep it in the lane. Ha.:chuckle
@MarineMazda and @-cj- saw me do a couple short pulls in mid October before I parked the car for the winter. They can chime in.
Poor Mikey.
Lol this is funny, well ofcourse there is going to be wheelspin, there is ofcourse on first and second gear in the top end, but once im in third i really dont have any. and i dont feel my wheel wanting to pull to one end... mabye you just need to hit the gym as much as i do ;) just kidding.. mabye im used to it and i just know how to control it. im happy with it and i enjoy driving it! such a fun car :) too bad the winters will be my next investment :(
as for the meth it is a 50/50 mix im tuned for i just confirmed. so i think i have a life time supply here at the shop :P
LOL. Bluestreak was trying to be nice I think. His is constantly fighting him at WOT... That's how your car should be. There's no getting used to it unfortunately. Every road surface will be different and it isn't predictable.
Are you monitoring your car? Post a log next time you do a pull...
Picked up car on thursday with 414wtq. Used to it by Friday morning
there's a meme here somewhere
You are luck Bluestreak is a nice guy and hasn't ripped you a new one.... At the torque you are making YOU WILL HAVE TORQUE STEER! you just hit this power level and you think you're use to it??? You can never fight torque steer it is always there an apparent....
I chuckle looking back at your posts a year ago and now that you have "built your motor and are making moderate power" you are the expert!
Just a word of advice be humble with what you have learned building a motor makes the car less reliable then ever. Pissing those that can help you off because you know better will hurt you in the future.
Between Bluestreak, Celestespeed, and myself we have built close to 7 motors in the past 8 months.
What's torque steer???
PS where is my built motor?!?!? @MarineMazda lol... I was going thinking of contacting SPEEDPERF6RMANC3 when I accumulate funds.
