Oh no, the kids are now using \"blocks\" to measure fuel consumption and fuel economy. It may be time to mandate minimum IQ scores to post here.

That\'s not fair to Broli. :D My wife measures fuel economy much the same way except she refers to the blocks as \"tick thingies.\"

AHAHAHAH,., omfg.. lol
not sure which one is less accurate \"blocks\" or the \"trip computer\" :zzz what ever happened to pen and paper? maybe an excel spreadsheet.. :sarc
and since broli posts here the minimum IQ needed is 6 :D
by their reasoning, there are 20 \'blocks\' so each one should be good for about 2.5L of fuel ;) except that you start at an area about 2 blocks more than full :sarc and end 2 blocks past empty :sarc

You guys are just jealous of the trip computer:p
Why waste time when I have something here to help me.

over the past week or so i was determined to see what numbers i can get on a fill.. this is what i did
1) shift at 2-2.5K RPM
2) never redline, highest revs were at 3K
3) never downshifting (as a result of #2)
4) highway cruise speed 100kph (sometimes i would venture in the 110kph territory)
i never thought driving could be so boring :sarc :p
what did all those 4 points add up to?
8.17L/100km mileage CITY and HWY (say 50/50)
the car\'s life average is 9.06L/100km and it hovers from 8.50-9.50L/100km
the best is 7.54L/100km
what does this mean in the long run? in my case, over a tank of gas i could do:
673km vs 607km (10.9% increase) on a tank
36000km vs 32500km for the same $
or save $235 over a year on fuel
no thanks.. i\'d rather kick the Large Double Double habit than granny the car :sarc
i was so happy to do the regular routine of 1-2-3 redline.. :D heh.. so was the car :)

^^nice post. I\'m trying really hard to granny my car now too. And I can go approx 470km a tank. But if i dump it less then 400km a tank.

Good work majic,
as you said, attaining better fuel economy means forgoing other driving pleasures. I used to have a heavy foot but have \'calmed\' down considerably since, it is all a personal choice. My current \'commute\' to work is 26km on Highway 400, Horseshoe Valley Road and Simcoe County Road 27. If I drive @ 120km/h vs 95km/h it saves me but 90s in time. I\'m almost always relaxed driving and rarely feel the \'Need for Speed\'. Furthermore, my fiance and I are now working close enough to drive together to work and walk the remaining distance through the county forest (250\') to our respective workplaces. This increases the savings in our pockets even further.
I think what majic did was very important in helping to solve some of the higher fuel economy claims. Although it may seem unthinkable on many roads to drive the speed majic did to obtain those fuel economy values it does show that it is possible to achieve near EPA posted fuel economy values.
For the record, my personal best fuel economy on a tank of gas was 6.25L/100km or 37.6 mpg(m). I double checked my spreadsheet and receipts for that as I am still not sure I could even get that high with the 2.3L engine.
Chris
Edit -- I was just thinking, maybe I should drive one tank worth of fuel at 120km/h to see what economy results I would get...:D

No.
Did I just hear someones lips smack off Majic\'s ass?
Pretty much a known fact driving slower on the highway improves fuel economy...
I shift under 3K
I don\'t redline
I don\'t downshift (as a result of #2)
I don\'t get to go on the highway.
I cruise 80km/hr, 5km to and from work, 10km a day. And have yet to acheive 20MPG.

this is PRECISELY YOUR PROBLEM!!!!
search on \"open loop\" on tm3 (in this thread actually) i explained it there.. don\'t believe me? take your car for a trip that is 30km or more.. then come back and you\'ll see your mileage improving
PS. i failed to mention that my commute is on average 40-70km one way, sometimes as low as 8km each way
PPS. btw.. 5km.. you should ride a bike :sarc

hey i get on full tank arnd 400km ... and i have arnd 7300km on my car ... is tht a problem or do i still have to wait till 8000km and thn i get a good mileage on the car

unfortunatly... getting good milage is not in your favour.
If you asked the dealer service dept. they will tell you what you want to hear. Yes, your milage will improve at 8000km.... if it dosen\'t and you go back.. they will say 10000km...

I was just at the autoshow and I grabbed an Energuide booklet on the raitings of various cars with independent tests performed on their track.
Here are the numbers for our Mazda3:
Manual transmission numbers look like [Manual] / and automatic will look like (Automatic)
Engine: 2.0L
Milage L/100KM City: [8.4] / (9.1)
Milage L/100KM Highway: [6.1] / (6.4)
Engine: 2.3L
Milage L/100KM City: [9.2] / (9.4)
Milage L/100KM Highway: [6.7] / (6.9)
Compared to the winner (most fuel effiencient non hybrid)
Honda Civic
Engine: 1.8L
Milage L/100KM City: [7.8] / (8.2)
Milage L/100KM Highway: [5.7] / (5.7)
Amazingly the civic lost no efficency in it\'s automatic transmission while cruising at highway speeds.
However with that said I had a chance to sit in one, and boy did it feel cheap cheap cheap. I felt like a king after when I got back to my 3, much more luxurious, in fact that\'s what I found of most cars in this class. The Acura TL and CSX which is more expensive once I got in one I felt cramped even with the seats adjusted.
I also didn\'t feel like the car was communicating to the driver (guess it\'s a subconcious thing the feeling of \"it\'s alive\")

thanks vortex... but i have yet to manage those numbers on the highway.
6.7L/100km? I get around 8-9... 10 sometimes. =( Im going 110-130. depends on my mood and if I have a passage. 110 if i have passage. 120-130 if i don\'t.

My best score was 7.1L / 100KM on an automatic which seems consistent with their raitings.
My average is just above 8. And aggersive driving averages about 9.
City driving for me goes from 9.8 - 12.
Hope those numbers help

according to my little experiment, it does NOT matter what gas station you fill up at..
---------------- Shell ---- Sunoco - Esso
L/100km ------ 9.04 ----- 9.08 ---- 9.05
gas (L) -------- 1287.84 - 629.93 -- 1902.49
mileage (km) - 14241 --- 6937 ---- 21030
* this is based on 80+ fillups.. 45000km and 1.5yrs of owning the car.. in the end it all averages out - summer and winter, highway/city, grannying it.. WOTing it..
yes yes.. posting it in 2 places.. just so ppl can find it easier.. ;)

Why not Petro Majic? That\'s what I use and feel as thought it yields better mileage. Your information is crap, go and re-do it all then post up the true results ;)

no petro can in my area.. besides.. shell/esso get me airmiles/points.. i don\'t need another useless \'point\' feature.. or whatever it is.. bottom line.. on my daily commutes, esso/shell outnumber any other station (and both have easypay/pass)
oh.. btw.. bite me :p

That is nuts.....take it to the dealership and let them check things out. Be honest, what is your driving style like (i.e. flooring it at every light, cruising at 130km/h on the highway, etc.)?
