Those steelies are starting to show a bit of orange.....
Well...bit of an update I guess. As most of you know, I wanted (and was also forced to, by my new surroundings) to jump out of dat stance lyfe. Wanted to drop down to 17's with beefy tires for this summer. Had these wheels since winter, all ready for me, and finally got around to purchasing tires a few weeks back, after months of flip-flopping between tire sizes. Once I had the tires on the rims, I was really liking how it was looking. Couldn't wait to get some proper drive-ability out of my car again. Finally got them on this past weekend, and boy was I wrong...
Won't get into the details, but essentially...beefy setup is beefy. Didn't wanna go too soft on the fitment side of things, but turns out I slightly over-estimated what I deemed as an "aggressively safe" setup for the car. Ran into a lot of issues trying to get this setup working properly. However it's now somewhat working itself out, and I'm hoping some fine tweaks in the coming days will render it fully drive-able. Basically my main issue right now is shredding a bit too much tire in the rear :P
Anyway, onto some pics. Just dirty-car/quick-shot pics I took yesterday. Hopefully can clean the car/wheels up and go out for a shoot this weekend.
This pain in the ass spent all of Saturday in that shop..

You'd think that wheel gap would be enough...but nope..

Saturated for some added orange..

Wheels:
17x8.5 +40 RPF1's
Powdercoated Candy Teal
Tires:
235/45/17 Hankook Ventus V12's
Rear quarter is angry. Angry rear quarter. And full of rust. But the wheels look wicked on it and of course teal hahaha.
It looks so hiiigh now
I have a problem with black wheels. And with my messed up car color, there's not much else I could do. I do really like teal [emoji14]
Ironically actually, I had a pretty big change of heart with the color of the rims after doing them. Not that I didn't like the color, but I just thought my car was coming off as too tacky in my mind...with the bright colors and all. Was nice last summer, but now it seemed like a little much for me. Wanted to be a little more subdued this summer. But once I put them next to the car, I decided I liked it [emoji14]
It feels high too. Jeez such a difference getting in and out of it. And even sitting/driving in it, it's noticeably higher than even my winter mode. I'm getting used to it though.
@asyed
Check out this wheel gap. Almost as bad as yours!
Let's hope being out there you don't get shot or the rims stolen lol. Your gonna attract a lot of attention with the transsexual 3. Add in more colours hahaha. But yea as I told ya I always found the 225 45s to be a perfect balance. Not skinny to the point where its unbearable but not too thick that you rub worse then when @asyed sees bird shit on his car. But seeing it I like the new look. They work well with the car. Nowhere near as aggressive as last year but would you really wanna rock last years setup on some of the worst roads in North America. Nope. Not a chance lol.
Pfft really. Pretty sure his hatch will still be like 3-4" taller. 4x4.
I can confirm that I am ATLEAST a few inches taller...
Fairly certain this is the most wheel gap this car has had since stock lol even on my saggy Prokits, I wasn't noticeably higher than this I don't think. Maybe like quarter inch max.
+1
Yea I'm pretty sure I'm like the only one with candy teal wheels in the State haha. But no, for sure this thing sticks out like crazy. I'm getting all sorts of weird looks. It's funny actually...the drive back on the highway while still in Ontario, I was getting different kind of looks (like, people checking them out). And I get here and the kind of looks I see are noticeably different :P
But..you haven't seen my car...so you technically can't
But yes, I'm still fairly sure you're a few feet higher
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05...3bb3c067f5.jpg donks be loved out in michigan apparently.
@FD22, you should go teal.
Purple is a royal colour.
let me know if you wanna get ride of those rims at some point ;)
Yellow and purple...yea I can see that working

Brap brap
Haha alright. But I'm hoping to hold onto these forced and ever and ever. Tired of changing shit on this car. Once I get this setup sorted out, it's sticking. My old wheels are up for grabs though ;) someone buy them!
I do really love how the teal came out on these. Better than my XXR's. They were able to make it brighter and pop a bit more. Another great job by Ronan at Stripping Technologies.

Do it..... doooo ittt
I''ll be the first to say, I'm not a fan of the Teal RPF1s. Maybe cause I'm boring and only like RPF1s in F1 Silver.
The old XXR's looked better, but I do like your new aggressive tire setup.
Definitely the first to say :P haha but yea like I said, I was kinda hesitant about it too. But I'm definitely digging the wheels now. Maybe you gotta see them in person. Really pops nicely. There's too many silver/gold/black RPF1's out there these days lol
I'm glad you like my new tire setup, cause my car certainly doesn't haha rears are rubbing too much. Makes me sad watching small pieces shred off my brand new V12's :(

I feel like if Phil doesn't rub he shouldn't be? I'm a little mystified.
Yup, totally agree. I initially wanted 9 wide just for this reason. I really dislike how different the faces look with anything less. But I didn't want hassles with fitment. Granted it would be less aggressive than my XXR's, but with the roads in Michigan, you really gotta tone it down to something that can get you around and take a beating.
Yea that would've been ideal in terms of looks
Precisely. And my poke in the front with these is already a bit more than I'd like. With my stretched tires last setup, I liked the poke. But with beefy tires, this much poke looks a bit weird to me.
Mystified is the middle name of my car. These BC's I have are just weird. I remember towards the early part of my setup last year too, I was rubbing when I really shouldn't have been, with people on almost the exact same setups not rubbing at all.
But anyway, seems like the rubbing has decreased a lot the past couple days. I'm guessing its due to the fact that I'm starting to "rub off" the parts that were rubbing. Which sucks cause they're decent tires, but whatever. Now only rubs mostly on turns and on bumps. For the turning, hoping to lessen that with a RSB. For the bumps, we'll see...got a couple things I'll be trying soon.
Of course I have a good chance of getting rid of rubbing completely by just cambering more. But it defeats the purpose of me trying to do a more drivable setup, so I'm using that as a last option. I'm already as cambered as I'd wanna be with this kind of wheel setup.
are the speed3 fenders different than the regular 3 or is the body exactly the same except for the hood?
@Dave_The_BMXER
Phil also has his car raised as high as possible, I though you were all about the lowz
Fenders are the different as well. My fronts are pulled as well, but still.
And yea I think I'm still a bit lower than him too. Unfortunately, the way I currently have my coils installed, I'm maxed out in terms of height in the rear. And I've already gotten my alignment, so I'd rather not have to mess around with the suspension again and then pay for an alignment again. Specially since all my components are always seized up and the alignment shop (and thus my wallet) goes through hell in the process.
If I'm not mistaken, the 9 wide comes only in a +45 offset. Meaning a 10mm spacer up front to clear suspension (maybe slightly less would work? Not sure). Thus I'm guessing it would still poke out just as much if not slightly more.
But alas, I have what I have, and this is what I must work with.
Yea, my theories pertained more to custom rims. The theory is there, the availability not so much.
I feel like 235 + 5mm might work up front but my knowledge running wider rubber is a little limited
