That's what I do, not because of the noise, but because the car struggles with the ported IM. Push the gas pedal in like 5%-10% and then start the car, it'll rev to about 3K rpm and then drop to idle rpm. I let it warm up a little longer when I do this though.

May also be a by-product of TB-coolant bypass?

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
I am going to have to try it today after work if my car gets cold enough after sitting this afternoon, if not I will try it tomorrow morning. If it keeps it quiet through the week I am good. After thinking about it for a while I need to have a muffler to pass inspections/emissions down the road so getting a muffler put on now just saves me time later on. So it's not a complete loss, probably spent less money than a cobb exhaust still lol...
Thanks for all the tips guys :)
PS anyone have the hole punch for doing the Washer Method install for meth nozzles?

isn't your car a 2011? making it due for inspection in 2018?

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
also muffler and/or resonator does nothing for omissions
-
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Ya it looks like there are no emissions regulations about a muffler but safety/law states you need to have an operational muffler on the exhaust, so straight pipes with a resonator is not quite meeting that requirement.
Just looking out for the future, gonna have to do it sooner or later so why not now. I wouldn't be able to sell the car without one either or have a really hard time finding a buyer.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
No emissions test facility is going to get under your car and check the exhaust system out, ESPECIALLY with the new system being in place, check the OBD2 for emissions codes. Done...IIRC it does not roll on the dyne anymore..
And they cant say "thats a resonator not a muffler" so it doesnt matter.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Safety Inspection check for it?

Could be, but I did both at the same time, so I have no way of telling which one is the culprit.

Use a drill bit for that. I also have a drill bit to tap the WWF tank (Simon).

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
^^^ Are you still noticing initial idle issues with the warmer weather we are having? Granted as much as these cars are the same, they each have so much of their own character, I haven't noticed any issues after the coolant bypass.

If there are no codes (hence the AP clears them) will my car pass without cats?
-
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Yep^
But i am not 100% sure the system wont somehow detect the AP.
Im not a drive clean inspector anymore, dont know the new stuff exactly, or what has changed hardware/software wise over the old dinosaur dial up stuff.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Hi guys,
I'm a new 2013 black MS3 owner. I love the car so far but got a few questions.
I noticed in some pics that there is a blue footwell lighting, similar to the ones that are lit up by the gearbox and door handles. How come my car doesn't have that on the footwell? Is that a removed feature for the 2013 model year or it's an added accessory that you need to buy?

Comes with the rice package. Did you get it?

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
No cats should work as along as the system shows as ready, so having one of those O2 stems might do the trick.
The footwell lighting was taken out of later model MS3's(2012 and on, I think... Mine didn't come with it either so I am assuming 2012's maybe 2011's too). You can have them put in still but you need to buy the kit or DIY.
OHHH and I tried to cold start with the gas pedal down a tiny bit... worked like a charm! I wonder why that over rides the normal cold start process the MS3 uses. All I got was one loud pop this morning and then the rpms settled. Thanks for the tip guys :)

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Foot well lighting was only on early 2010's. More specifically I believe only cars with an '09 build date.
-
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
First post on tm3 and in speed section is about footwell lighting

I'll need to borrow that.

Thanks that's what I thought too. I guess the "rice" package is that overpriced interior lighting kit Mazda is selling. What does that contain other than footwell lighting?

What's the reason behind removing features like this? Cheaped out?

Nothing else to complain about at the moment. :P

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
They removed a lot of the little things like the lights, scuff plates in the door james and a fancy oil cap for saving money I suppose... this way people have to pay for all the nice little accessories. Kinda sucks but whatever, you don't really notice it much when you are flooring it with a big smile on your face lol.

Yup just saw those things you mentioned on the Options & Accessories page as a add-on from the website.
I wonder how many things were removed. It's too bad because later models should be getting more things on it, especially how 2013 is the final model year for this current generation. Doesn't seem fair and I believe the MSRP is higher for 2013 model too.

Who cares. At the end of the day, you will have a rust bucket worth very little.
