Re: Metal Coaters (Powdercoating Rims)
I have used aftermarket rims over the winter since I don't like the look of the steelies. You can clearcoat the rims as much as you want but if you don't wash and maintain them over the winter, they are going to look like crap. Take the time to care for them and they will be fine. Otherwise, stick with steelies.

nevermind, your right. two layers of powdercoat. i kept thinking they were because of the gloss black. makes them look as if a layer of clear coat is applied.

better take extra care of those wheels then or buy three cans of clear coat and layer your rims!!

Re: Metal Coaters (Powdercoating Rims)
One layer of clear coat is good enough. Quay did mine earlier this year and not one chip on the rims. They still look as good as they did when I picked them up at his shop.

too late now since they're on the car. oh well. no loss really. for the price you can't complain, and if it doesn't hold up, i'll have them redone else where.
Overall, Metal Coaters is a good place. Quick turn around and Taj is a cool guy to deal with (at least for me he was). I'll take the chance of running them without clear coat in the winter and report back in March/April to see how well they actually held up.

Re: Metal Coaters (Powdercoating Rims)
Job at Metal Coater is done. Got my rims powdercoated florescent yellow with a layer of clear coat. Teaser pictures are in my gallery.
Pros:
- quick job
- good quality job
- customer service
Cons:
- far for scarborough members
- slight issue with the color
Although I noticed a slight discoloration in the final product, Taj was willing to resolve the issue immediately. I have no complaints about the service here at Metal Coaters - they were awesome.

Re: Metal Coaters (Powdercoating Rims)
So I was venting my frustration on Facebook about an expensive quote I got from a powdercoater to powdercoat my newly acquired rims. Then Hitesh told me about Metal Coaters. I emailed Taj and he replied with a quote of what I wanted done, and it was less than half the cost of the other quote. So I dropped off my rims the next day. We went through a couple pamphlets before we found the colour I wanted. We agreed on the price and the colour and how it was done and I left for work. Two days later, Taj emails me, saying the rims were done. I picked them up and I was amazed at how they turned out...

I definitely can't wait till spring now...

Re: Metal Coaters (Powdercoating Rims)
I've got a set of RX-8 rims going in next week and he has quoted me $250 cash for powder coating the gloss black without clear coat. As he mentioned the gloss black does not require a clear coat.

Did he raise the price? I paid $200 for mine with no clear coat in the same gloss black.
