GB package is packed...tho I hope it can get squeezed in. Totally possible if Jennifer can do something today.

Not sure how many has the JBR RSB 1.25..

I do, but the allen bolt is going nowhere... so much rust on it.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
For anyone interested, the size of the allen bolts to the rotating collars for the JBR RSB 1.25 is 1/4-28 x 5/8"..

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Welp, looks like the K04's turbo seals have finally let go. Drove out today, came to a stop at a light - blue smoke out the back. No smoke otherwise while driving, only at idle. Let it cool down for 5 hours, then went out for a drive - same result as soon as I come to a stop and wait 10 seconds. The culprit is almost certainly the turbo seals on the K04, but feel free to correct me. The car drives fine otherwise, no issues other than that.
May I ask... for those who have run into this before...what is the best course of action, for the least amount of $$. /sigh.
Edit:
Maybe I should get a "DISI Turbo Oil Restrictor Bolt Kit" from JBR? $30. I confess that I don't understand how replacing a single bolt can help to prevent oil seeping past the seals.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
The turbo is fed oil but gravity drains it...by putting in the restrictor bolt you feed less oil to the turbo so that it doesn't push past the seals. If you've had an otherwise fine turbo all this time, the restrictor bolt probably won't fix your problem...time for a new turbo. Good excuse to go little biggy (BNR S3, CS, etc) on your car.

You mean this little biggy? http://corksport.com/mazdaspeed-3-turbo-upgrade.html
Not a bad price. If I do go little big turbo, what prevents the problem from coming back, though? I gather that this happens because the crankcase has too much pressure, so it prevents the oil from draining out of the turbo and pushes it past the seals.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
If you've got that much positive crankcase pressure that your PCV system can't deal with it, then you probably have engine internal problems too lol Seals wear out though...how many km on your car? It's hard to say without checking some things out what it really is. Do a compression test, pull your intercooler and check for oil in the intake track, make sure your catch can is empty and not excessively filled with oil...do some leg work to narrow down what's happening.

96k right now. Catch can was cleaned last week, and only had a small amount of crap in it.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Is your idle rev at 900 -950rpm? Also using rotella? Those 2 along with the banjo bolt is what's recommended mostly

Rev was at 900. I have since changed it to 1200 (in idle tables A, B, AC: A, AC: B) and the smoking has gone away (obviously because of lessened pressure in the crankcase). Spent the whole morning and afternoon today just driving around and trying to see if the smoking came back at 1200rpm, and it did not. 1200 seems a bit high, so maybe it should be 1100 - although I did try 1100 and got a bit of smoking so I figured that 1200 is a safer bet. Or maybe this just means my K04 is facked and I need a new turbo.
Yes, using Rotella T6. I'm going to get the JBR bolt and slam that one in. Is there any concern when using the restrictor banjo bolt? If I understand it correctly, it works by restricting oil that goes to the turbo.... is this actually a good thing? Just asking.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
I think if there was a serious problem with it they wouldn't make it, at least not JBR

Yeah, and it's also made by Damond Motorsports. Welp, looks like I'm going to get that ordered up tomorrow. Any thoughts on the Corksport turbo, Loki? I've been hearing good things about it on MSF, just wondered if you knew any more about it.

Yeah 1200 rpms is a bit high. Should be fine for the short term though. I havent heard of any negative impacts of the restrictor bolt. Install it and see, if anything your turbo is on its last legs so not much to lose. The CS turbo is a good little package and their turn around time should be better than BNR.
Any reason why you dont want to go a little bigger than the CS? GTX2867 is quite popular.

You do realize that the CS turbo is pretty well the same size right? In fact, the CS turbo claims to flow a bit more than even a 3071...

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Yeah same size wheel. I think the GTX28 has made more than 400hp more consistently due to it flowing better up top. The highest CS turbo ive seen is 375hp with e85. But I believe there is more to the turbo. Should hit 400HP.
There isnt as much data on the CS turbo since its a fairly new turbo. The GTX28 is a more tried and tested route for sure.

Sure but it's also pricey and I have my doubts he's going to do e85/meth/built block or whatever else to really take advantage of more. I'm sure he'd be happy with a safe and pump gas 350whp tune and call it a day. So take the less expensive turbo that doesn't need any other mods (like 3" coupler or possibly new inlet), comes with all the gaskets and crap to install it, and call it a day.
That said, if I were picking a new turbo I'd still get the GTX2867r lol

You are absolutely correct. Safe tune, 350whp or whatever as long as it's safe, that's all I look for. I just like to enjoy my car without sh*t breaking you know? hah. Where would you guys get the GTX2867r here in Canada?
