primary driver $2100/year
car : 2004 MZ3 GS

Insurer : State Farm
covrage : Full Coverage
driver : Primary
discount : 6star + home
paying : $208 (postal- M1N - scarborough)
Waiting for the drop since i moved to sauga.
Anyone renewing their insurance for March 2006?
I just got my renewal noticed today. And did I get a shock, Holy Cow! I went from $167/mth to $217/mth! :(
There\'s absolutely no change in my driving status, full 6-stars. The representative just told me that the Mazda3 rating just went up, since it was a new car and that they\'re receiving data and are adjusting rates accordingly. Sounds rational, apparently the accident claims, collisions and comprehensives all when up in rating.
Anyone experienced sticker shock yet? Looks like I\'m going to have to look for another insurance company.
*update*

Definitely shop around. I suggest Meloch Monnex if you\'re a university grad!!
I agree, I\'m with MM and wow are they cheaper then The Personal. Also, I can understand them changing the classification of the 3, but it\'s not so new that the data is just now coming to them.....the car has been out for like three years now :sarcQuote:

Insurance Company: The Personal (group rate from work)
Car model: 2005 Mazda 3 GT + GFX, 5MT
Age: 25
Driving: Since I was 16
Rate: $1900 per year ($158 per month)
Hey is the rate suppose to be cheaper every year since the car depreciates in value?
Crap, I\'m with Meloche Monnex right now! And with the Alumni discount.Quote:

Just another excuse to raise rates, too bad it had to be me. I called them up and was told to expect a call from the manager this morning. Still waiting. :sarc
Well, I tried getting an online quote from PC Insurance and surprise! They\'re cheaper at $152/mth! WTF, I\'m getting a better rate than Meloche Monnex ever gave me! Better check this again.
@#%* !!!
hey if you want I can put together a quote for you
just PM me the following
names of all drivers
address & contact number
g1/g2/g license dates

On my current policy I am paying $270/month and it expires in September of this year. Is it possible to switch policies before it expires? If yes, will I have to pay a fee to do this? I am seeing much lower rates on insurancehotline.com ($153.00/month) and kanetix.ca ($186.00/month).
Thanks in advance!
since the insurance companies work together not to steal each others business. A new company won\'t accept your application until the final month or two of your old policy.
So if ya ask... A New insurance company won\'t take you on until the end of July or sometime in August
That\'s not entirely true, when I was with the Personal I was about four months away from renewal when I checked out what rate I would get with MM and of course they were better. I called up the Personal to see if I could get out early and they had no problem with it, but that I would have to pay a penalty. When I weighed it all out, the penalty negated any savings over that four months (well, almost) so I just stuck it out.Quote:

This is not correct, the main reason people wait till their renewal to switch is due to cancellation fee charge for terminating the policy mid term. everyone but state farm charges some sort of penalty which acts as a deterrent to switch, although I do get alot of clients that save so much with me that they are fine paying the cancellation fee. For the record I will steal any business away from any company, I got bills to pay:DQuote:

The insurance industry is like any other for profit business
I guess we agree to disagree :) There has been serveral occasions where I have called for a quote and have been told that they would not accept me as a client because there was too long a time frame until the insurance policy I had expired.
Is that the insurance company being concerned that I might have to pay a cancellation fee? Not likley.
Or an insurance company not taking business away from another..until it is fair game (renewal time)?
Car : 2005 MZ3 GT

Just talked to state farm, when i get 3 years of record(october 2006) my montly payment will go down to 169 a month!!
that could be possible, but it sounds like an excuse, kind of like when they tell you your auto insurance went up because of 911.Quote:

if you\'re calling brokers some of them may be restricted from writing business, this happens regualrily when a broker is not writing profitable business or the insurance company has stopped them from writing new business. Essentially it has to do with loss ratios, there is a certain ratio insurance companies like to be in if they get hit hard on claims one year they may not accept new business. Also if you sound young or only have 1 car they tend to not want to waste their time with you as Mono line business is not to profitable especially auto.
They\'re not concerned with your cancellation fee, they\'re concerned with the fact you\'ll be wasting their time, as most clients even once quoted a lower price will usually wait till renewal if the saving is less than $200.
there is only honour amongst theives, not amongst insurers and I tell you I steal business from other carriers daily.:D
daily i tells ya

I\"m telling you all...PC is the way to go. I\'ve done some major shopping around for both myself (26, Celica, Oakville) and my gf (26, Mazda3, T.O.).
I just moved to Oakville from Waterloo adn decided to shop around when I was told my rates would go up. My premium with PC in Oakville was $50 cheaper per month than my old rate in Waterloo and $80 per month cheaper than the new rate current company was giving me.
Then when my gf got her 3, we looked around again. PC was the cheapest everytime (including MM with an Alumni discount).
PC give you some nice extras...including PC points...PLUS the disapperaing deductible (which is sweet). Every year without a claim, you\'re deductible goes down 20%....so after five years w/o a claim, you have no deductible.
I have a few friends with PC insurance and they seem happy.Quote:

However, I have encountered clients that have had some problems dealing with claims and being told one thing and having another result once everything is settled. Bear in mind this is when you need your insurance the most as this is what you really pay for, sometimes paying that little bit extra goes a long way. The only thing that concerns me about PC insurance is that their call centre is in India, the people that work there are licensed to handle insurance in Ontario but have very little practical knowledge about driving conditions and rules of the road etc.
but having said that the majority of people I speak with are price motivated so it that\'s what moves you then go for it.
I\'m actually just in the process of going through a claim with them. I wrecked a good part of the my front end...I should be picking my car up tonight actually. They\'ve been great to deal with so far. They quickly got me a rental...since I have been w/o a car for two weeks...and didn\'t give me any hassles about getting the repairs done at a body shop of my choosing. The accident was completely my fault too...not that that matters a whole lot.Quote:

Everything should be taken care of tonight...I\'m just waiting to see if my rates are going to go up as a result since I don\'t have a perfect record I\'m not sure if I get one freebie.
I don\'t know about their call centre...they have always been good on the phone, although I did have a hard time understanding the guy that set my policy up in the first place. PC doesn\'t really handle any of it themselves...it\'s all contracted out to Aviva or S&Y Insurance. PC is essentially just a broker themselves.
Just my experience...one of many...I\'m sure (like anything) there are others who have had seen a worse side.
HOLY CRAP, I just switched from thePersonal to PC Auto Insurance... from $2000 down to $1500, that\'s including the first claim cover, since I haven\'t made a claim EVER, for $30 year, I can get this package where if I get in an accident (it\'ll be my first) and it\'s my fault, they won\'t raise my insurance and I keep my 9 star rating!
insurance companies are all evil, their yearly profit is insane, government should regulate how they charge their premiums!
Received my insurance renewal today...my premium increased from $1500 to $2300. I have 6 star rating, no accidents or tickets the last three years. I called my broker and was told the increase was mainly due their rating of Mazda3 GT has increased from 23 to 27 (Whatever that means). Now looks like we are going to have to pay for the accident claims that all Mazda3 are making.
we are regulated heavily by FSCO and the Provincial Governments,Quote:

how is a private business making money evil? Not that I\'m defending the industry but it seems like an off the cuff remark without knowing what you\'re talking about.
Off the cuff?!? Hahahaha!!!! How about the gouging and increasing prices! The fact that it is mandatory and when you do use your insurance your rates go up! The fact that any ticket regardless of if there are points involved still counts against you. I love the whole cop bs of, \"here son, i lowered your ticket to 10 over so you won\'t get points and your insurance will be unaffected.\" Any ticket from 0 to 49 over is the same in the eyes of insurance companies. Accidents last for 6 years and rates barely decrease the longer your safe driving record gets. I have no love for insurance companies, but I think that\'s obvious. Private business making money isn\'t evil, but any business ripping people off is pretty damn wrong! Sorry for the vent, but I feel better now.:)Quote:

That\'s the same exact thing that happened to me, but I went with Meloche Monnex at the time. Switched to PC Insurance, and never looked back.
Actually, I did an online quote with PC Insurance and got a higher quote, ~$2700.Quote:

From my experience with any online insurance quote for automobiles, the quote online will be pretty high. Give the place a call and work out a quote with a rep and it\'ll drop a fair bit. I might have to give PC a try just to see what premium they\'ll give me but here\'s my current policy;Quote:

Got my renewal in the mail yesterday from TD MM. Everything appears to have stayed the same on the policy minus the $30 increase in their POS grand touring option which I\'m thinking to call in and remove if possible.
Anyways, my premiums have gone up 10%. :grr
