It's been a year now the 3 and still doing 85% highway, 15% city and can get about 575km before fuel light comes on...now that's going 100-110km/h...at 120km/h I can only get about 500km.

So....it's pretty much 450km per tank.
People try to get more milage to do anything such as using cruise control, drive at 80km all the time etc....
My 2009 Mazda 3 2.0L auto is doing the same thing.
only 450km / tank?? This is damn far from Manufacture's rating. Theoretically I should get range of 500km to 600km according to Mazda. I had 2000 Tiburon for 9 years and didn't have to worry about fuel consumption like Mazda. I drove pretty fast and enjoyed speeding on the road. However, I normally got 500~550km all combined. 730km was the MAX I got with my 2000 Tib. Of course I was driving 100~110km for all time. This is same as what manufacture's rating says. What's wrong with Mazda?
I mean I love mazda. I really do but fuel comsumption is horrible.
It actually sucks. If you consider fuel consumption, go for Hyundai Elantra or something.
I consistently get between 550-640 before filling up. I have never filled up more than 47 litres.
Have only had my car for 1 week now. Filled up twice with half tank remaining. Now I know the last half generally drops a lot faster.
Here are my numbers.
April 27 - $18.75 21.8 litres - 302.7 KM
April 30 - $23.90 27.37 litres - 368.3 KM
So if todays numbers held constant which I very much doubt, I would have been able to get 736KM for the tank.
My driving habits are 90% Highway 10% city. AVG speed 100 - 110KPH
2007 GS fully loaded
wow... no way those km are that low.
Is that half tank? or the entire tank?
That April 30 figure was about what I was getting at foirst for a whole tank, Getting better now, at 225km just under half a tank.
Here are my mileages averaged out over the past few weeks. Mixed driving, although the speed sees more "spirited" driving.:chuckle
Wife's 08.5 (2.3, auto) - 8.19 liters / 100km
My 08.5 Speed 3 - 9.88 liters / 100km
my cars brand new and i average around 8.1 L/100 km depending on how i drive, it has been better than that on occassion.
I have the 09 GX and on a long highway trip i'm getting in the 600 to 640Km range. i find that if i cruise at around 130ish i use less gas (could just be me). in the city i'm getting consistant 500 to 550. I talked to my dealership a while back and they said that those numbers should actually improve by a bit as the engine gets worked in.
Mine doesn't look too be shaping up very well... first tank I have kept track of I am a few notches above 1/2 tank and I have only got like 160Km's outta it. Brutally low, even taking into account I am a "spirited" driver. Taking it in to my mechanic on Monday... hopefully he will find whatever is causing the issue.
I would like to see it up to about 450km +
what do you guys expect to get with an engine pulling 160 hp and a 150 torque... If any of you guys are expecting to get the same numbers as civics or corollas then you must be nuts... You gotta choose between power or fuel economy simple as that .... Anywhere from 400-500 city is good and 550-650 highway is good...
I have a 3 and a civic and the civic is a real fuel economy car while the 3 is just bad compare to the civic. However the 3 kills the civic in power ,looks and options...
Before buying a 3 most of you guys should of read the many many discussions about how bad the mazda 3 is comparing to corollas and civics.... my advice will be sell the mazda 3 and get a civic or corolla if fuel economy is what you are looking for however be warned that civics or corolla are not as fast as mazdas
I got 7L/100km on my 2010 2.5 3 yesterday.
When I filled up that is.
I'm hanging the receipt for this one on my wall. Went up to the cottage - from Welland, to Port Loring, and back to Parry Sound. Speeds mostly around 100kph. 582km on 34.379L = 5.91L/100km (almost broke the 40mpg mark). This is a 2.3L/5spd.
I actually did better than I thought... 425km on a full tank aprox with 100% city driving
I'm getting about 450km a tank, 60% city / 40% highway using 91 gas and driving like a maniac....
Why use 91 Octane when it's only rated for 87?
Fuel Economy wise... in city driving, the Corolla will own the Mazda 3, routinely getting 600 or so before the light comes on. However, highway driving, I find my 3 to be better than the Corolla... I can pull close to or a little over 700 at about 110km/h while the Corolla still only gets in the 600 range.
