Ahh Yeahh Thanks Aitch for the name change
I was able to make one post but I can't make replies or quotes. Everytime I post a response it says that it will be reviewed then never shows up.
I didn't want to create a new thread for this, but could someone please answer when we're allowed to edit our posts? I'm part of a few forums and none of them prevent new members from editing their own posts. I would love to hear why this feature exists. All this does is encourage members to post drivel to increase their post count.
100 posts. And yeah, it's dumb to not edit. While you're new you'll just end up double posting much more than you mean to

100 posts gives a 24 hour period to which posts can be edited.
We made this change years back to stop people from using TM3 as a soapbox/leverage. I.e. - User is unhappy with a dealership, posts about a dealership, they screwed him, stole his money, etc, etc . When in actual fact the delivery date of the car had been postponed once or twice. Dealership sees post, contacts poster and says WTF are you talking about ? Your car is on the way, etc, etc . User then deletes post completely, rather than posting an update. Dealership receives no negative feedback. Poster benefits as he gets a response, but future posters or browsers of the forum do not benefit as they never see that this dealership had any issues ever.
Has happened to dealerships, and sponsors, and we do not want it continuing to occur.

the dealership stuff makes sense.. Though if you were to time out editing to withing 15 minutes and not allow delete posts, would that not remedy it?
one of my other VB forums let you edit within half an hour and i think you could delete within an hour after that it's locked in and only mods can tinker with it
We can and do, but some threads as in my example, may not be abusive, they may be useful to start, even if being used as a soapbox. When the original post is then deleted, the thread becomes useless.
Once a user reaches 100 posts, they get 24 hours to edit. Until that time, we want to keep more oversight of their posting.
If a thread becomes useless, close it and add a note explaining why it was closed. Simple. And how often does that scenario even happen? What I don't understand is why someone would bash a dealership/sponsor and quickly remove their post. If they really wanted to hurt them, they'd leave their post for the world to see.
They use it as leverage to get what they want..."either you do XYZ or I will bash you on TM3/Social Media/etc" , Business then capitulates or they find a middle ground. Original Post then gets removed as user has received what they want.
How often does it happen ? Very rarely now. It used to happen more frequently before we changed the protocols.

.
This may be an odd question but uh.... how do you add an avatar?
Go to "Settings" (top right) then click Edit Profile Picture. You can host one here or from another site.

I think I may need to. Funny enough, I share my name with one of the moderators. Lol.
