    drive your folks' car(s) until you're 25.

    That is all.

Lowest quote was statefarm with $800 (discount for roadside assistance, good GPA, etc). I am sure I can get a better and a more realistic quote once I actually give them a call, rather than using online tools.
    Deffinitly give them a call.
I am only 20, only have my G2, no tickets, no accidents and am paying nearly 500/mo which is already way to high I think (but i need insurance so whatchu gunna do).

Yeah you would be much better off with either a low-cost beater for now, or if you could somehow have the car in your parents' name and be a secondary driver. Paying double the monthly car payment for insurance is beyond ridiculous. There are much better places to put your money.

But wait, if it weren't for daylight robbery rates like the OP is getting, how will the executives of said insurance company ever get their multi-million dollar salaries and stock options!? THINK man! You can't just give this...this... good advice without considering the consequences!

Well that's absolutely impossible, considering family only has one car, that my dad uses for work and he would never let me behind the wheel anyway, just cause he is like that.

Yeah, I just recently did only quote from RBC and Meloche Monnex and got rates of $450 and $500 which was a bit better! How does one go about lowering insurance rate? Does it change/adjust automatically, or do I have to pester the broker with calls every year saying "I am 25", "1 year no tickets", etc?

Also, to stay a bit on topic, assuming I get a 2013 Mazda 3 GS-SKY 4DR AUTO Touring Edition with Leather Package (Assuming that I just said is possible) - what other options and accessories may I possibly need? Like fog light switch or mud flaps? I am not a car person (A Web Developer/Software Developer) so a lot of car options mean nothing to me when I read them.

Are you looking for styling features or to get more bells and whistles?

IMO I think its better to get bells and whistles with the dealer (i.e curise controller, steering wheel controls, fog lights etc.. as all these things are big bucks to get done post-purchase)
when it comes to rain guards, mud flaps and other small styling changes dont rush into, you will have this car for the next few years and its always nice to change stuff up.

    Lol

Until your experience is much higher, your gonna get nailed by insurance. That's life. Is it fair. NO but that's life.

Hell I paid a higher premium then my car was worth for the first 5 years of driving. 600+ a month on a 94 grand am 4 dr. under my rents policy

Moved to downtown TO. took my car off the road. a couple years later. Bought another car and my insurance was 160 on an 86 olds cutlass. And now 3 years later still is 160 but now on an 07 3.

The only way around it is to pay through the nose for a few years.

BUT as stated you would be better off getting an older beater at least for 1 year. Let your insurance drop then buy a new car.

Rates should go down automatically. But don't count on a huge break when you turn 25. It's a pretty bull discount. ( mine was something like $30 a year. )

I bought a car when I turned 25. My broker advised me to wait the two weeks until my actual birthday as the quotes she was seeing were double if I got it while I was still 24.

Ya. I was told that to. Until I actually received an adjustment.

Well GS-SKY is already good and touring edition combined with leather package gives me almost more thins than I need.

So I am just looking for little things that can save me a few bucks and stress down the road. I mean if mud flaps save me $20/mo on car wash then why not.

Well let's put it this way. I never paid the premium while 24 but at 25 it was as stated, I think around $1400/year.

That seems like a nice deal vs projected $32000 (taxes and fees) for a brand new 2013 gs-sky

Just bought a 2012 Mazda3 GS-Skyactiv Luxury Package Pearl White (extra cost for white) BRAND NEW taxes in $22XXX but I've read the full thread and OP don't fly before you crawl man. I'm 21 but I've had my G1 right when I turned 16 got my G2 8months later because of driving school and ended up getting my full G at 17 (just before I turned 18) since 17 I've had my own insurance and the most I paid was $450 a month for a 96 Civic DX coupe...now I'm at $237 for my 2012 Mazda...trust me man you have to factor in maintenance costs (even if you have warranty things happen), gas, unexpected $$$ not car related but life related...

    You are incorrect..

    $160 X 26 biweekly payments X 7 yrs = $29,120
    Damn you photobucket.....

I was originally planning on moving out of my parents place, but might freeload for a few more months, cause every insurance quote I did online gives me around $1200/month (pinch me) tag.

As far as the features go - it is indeed a whole lot of want vs need situation, but I like to spoil myself when I can, haha.
That sucks to hear. $1200 a month is very very steep. I was b*tching at $165/mo for my Speed. Do a lot of shopping around, hopefully you can find something that's reasonably affordable. If you call Statefarm ask them to add life insurance to your policy, it will drop your rate because you'll get a multi-policy discount (I bought a Toyota Celica when I was 21 dropped my rate from $310ish per month - car only - to $230/mo with the life insurance) some agents will tell you, some won't, i got lucky.

    Best of luck!

So, not to make a new thread, I'll just continue my old one!

I have finally gotten my G2 and am hoping to get a car by the end of this month... Somehow... I do have a few remaining questions:

    1) Financing - there are deals with 0% financing, and I assume its dealer's financing. Is there an application that I need to fill out and have approved prior to even going to see the car? Or is it a kind of 100% 0% approval rate guarantee kind of thing?

    2) Is it possible to refinance the car at some point? i.e. I start with a 60 months 0% financing and in 2 years I get a job that pays more and I would like to expedite my payments?

    Thank You!

You don't have to have approved financing to look at and test drive the car. The dealer will go through the approval process for you once you reach an agreement to purchase the car.

The terms allow for you to increase your payments at any time, you just can't decrease them below what is set out in the contract. Do a bulk payment when you have extra cash, or increase the monthly, up to you.

The second part sounds great! Something that I would definitely love to do!

So as far as financing goes, I can find my dream car, test drive it, and then not get financing (if not approved)?

Another question I have is this: how much can be done over the phone? As far as talking about whats available, options, etc? The 2-3 dealerships I got quotes from/interested in are hours away via public transit and because I got full time job, it becomes nearly impossible to actually do the whole "go from dealer to dealer" kind of thing

Call Jeff at Mazda of Toronto. You can do the whole deal over the phone if you want and you'll get a great price with no haggling necessary.

Metal Wing, Have you looked into Desjardins General Insurance? They might be reasonable enough for you.

My daughter is going for her G2 within the year and we have to look around for Insurance for her. Mind you, we dont have our Mazda anymore.

I'm not sure if your question has been answered in regards to selecting the touring edition, but I was told by Probart Mazda that the touring edition was a late release and they were just starting to get them in now. When I check mazda.ca again today I was able to select the touring edition as an option, so you should also be able to now.
