Simply put, looking at replacements that i've test driven recently, probably my last "toy car" for a good long while. Auto would've been nice, but "fun" cars tend to not come with that option. I drive around 105km a day at a minimum, most of it is in the thick of the 401. I still cart my parents around so the versatility of a 4/5 door would be nice, but the Genesis coupe has me second-guessing that notion. Disclaimer, I'm nowhere near as thorough as some of the experts on the board like RTEnthousiast, these are just a collection of my impressions.
Alternatively, the miserly Asian in me seems to want to drag me down the other trail... Golf TDI, Skyactiv Mazda3, Regular Focus, or dump $500 in my current car and wait for something better to come along... What would you choose?
Genesis coupe:
* Yes, I know it's a coupe. Handles nicely, RWD, 2.0T has pretty good punch, quiet comfort, can take regular gas, has an auto option
* Interior is nice but dash is too busy, it's a coupe, the sport-mode A/T isn't as responsive as DSG in the GTI, not that great on gas consumption, back seat non-existent
VW GTI:
* Comfortable interior, 5 door option, auto is available, DSG shifts really crisply, built in Germany, reasonable forum/aftermarket following, 2014 version of 2.0T looks promising
* Pricey right off the bat, maintenance and cost-of-ownership seems pricey, VW gremlins exist though at a lesser reported rate, never 0% financing
Focus ST:
* Interior finished nicely, I assume that the maintenance cost of a domestic will be lower, fuel economy is apparently a little better than average, handling is very good, 5-door
* The seats suck donkey anatomy for fatties like me, doesn't have the "throw you in your seat" power delivery, the supposed "superb" engine noise in-cabin was pretty mute
Mazdaspeed3:
* Interior is ok, lots of gadgets come with the tech package, love the power delivery, standard equipment is nice, its a 5-door, and of course, having a great online community
* Fuel economy seems to be the worst of the bunch by a fair margin especially with the city-esque driving that i'll be doing on the 401, clutch is stiffer/heavier than it's competition
