    Default Hood Deflector Causes problem

So my car had a thorough wash on Monday.

and ... when we took of the bug deflector, well
there were dents and scratches where those rubber half
circles are that keep the deflector of the hood

wanted to know if anyone else has had this happen?

I plan on checking this weekend. Its been almost 4 weeks since I installed it, plus I want to give the car a proper wash and wax! Will let you know if I see anything!

By rubber half circles, do you mean the \"bumpons\"?

If you took any pictures please post them, thanks!

I\'ve had hood deflectors on several cars in the past. They all caused some damage to the hoods no matter how well I took care of the car. I don\'t plan on using them again.

I removed mine, never noticed any damage at all from the deflector. The bracket is sorta lose now so I haven\'t replaced it. Less worried about stone chips now, more concerned with inconsiderate people parking next to me swinging their doors wildly open.

You think you can just give those areas a good wash/wax/polish and they\'ll be gone?

Wow, really? I just assumed that there was some discolouration or lack of clearcoat from the deflector rubbing the paint.

    Quick question...

Are the rubber dome thingees attached to the Deflector or the Hood?

They should be stuck to the hood to prevent damage! but if it was installed wrong with the stoppers attached to the deflector, it will cause damage.

    Damn you photobucket.....

they are stuck to the deflector and they rest on the hood!?
i mean that the flat side is stuck to the deflector, and the
rounded end rests on the hood!!

    that is the incorrect way??!!??

please tell me there is some way to prove this, i.e. some sort of instructions
as they guy at Ontario Mazda tried to say it was the fault of the wind pushing on the deflector
or someone leaning on it, i told him i doubt that there would be even damage at all 6 points from leaning!

i am gonna rip his head off tonight when i pass by, especially if i have proof . . .

I believe they should be the other way around, i.e. stuck onto the hood with the rounded side pointing towards the deflector, well thats how the instructions told me to place them, plus I\'ve seen a bunch of cars with deflectors that have their \"bumpons\" placed that way.

I think I still have the instructions somewhere, will check and let you know!

Whoa..!! They stuck them to the deflector?? What idiots. They\'re supposed to be stuck to the hood. The way you have it, it would ruin the hood for sure.

True that! No issues for me so far! (even though I was a bit leary of sticking dem \"bumpons\" onto my new hood at first!)

So I checked the instructions I got with my deflector and I don\'t now how the guys at Ontario Mazda missed it but it says something to the effect of (going from memory):

\"IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT PLACE THE BUMPONS ON THE DEFLECTOR AS THIS COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE\"
