Mazda 3 Alarm system?

So I noticed something funny the other day that surprised me. I reached into my cousin's RX-8 from the outside and flicked the lock to unlock and the car started honking, intrigued I tried this on my 3, and nothing happened... The car was locked twice with the key fob (until I heard the beep) and im pretty sure I see that red blinking light when its locked. Is there something wrong with it? or does this feature not exist on the GS model of the 3?

the rx8 thinks you shattered the window and breaking into the car which is why it went off. i havnt tried this with my 3 yet... but this feature comes on a lot of cars.

try stepping out of the car with windows rolled down, then lock the car from the outside. reach in and unlock, then either pull the inside handle of outside. the horn might go off.

You sure he doesn't have an aftermarket alarm? My Viper alarm system will do this if I don't unlock via the alarm (I only know because I locked it one day before everyone had their doors open, and my friend set off my alarm when they unlocked it).

GS does not have factory alarm... Their is a red light that flashes in cluster but its not for alarm

I have a 2011 GS and it has a stock alarm. Left my granddaughter in the car cause she was a sleep in her chair. Even though we were in her driveway, I locked the car. She woke up and decided to leave the car. When she unlocked it the horn went off and lights started flashing.

The OP has a first gen (04-09) and their is no factory alarm on the GS for Those years

04-09 GT models had a stock alarm. It's active when the doors are locked.

huh? i got an 04 gs and it has an alarm.... my car sometimes confuses me on what i got... some features come on the gt, but most come on the gs... either way i got a 4 speed auto

I'm pretty sure you didn't. Then again one can be wrong from time to time so maybe I am wrong.

Even in 2007 the "theft deterrent system" was only available for the GT models in Canada so I can't see a 2004 being different. I don't have a Spec Sheet from 2004 to confirm either unfortunately.

im gonna have to see if i can get my alarm going off. i know its happened before a couple times without touching the panic button.

That behaviour is what my car does. It doesn't if it sense a key on the inside of the car as when my wife's in the car when I go out to get something.

Mine goes off when locked, and reaching in from the outside to get something. Happened to me at cars & coffee lol

the rx8 doesn't have a proximity sensor, reaching through the window, walking by the car, nor breaking the window will make it go off... however, if you added the shock sensor accessory to the rx8, it will go off when you bump the car hard or break the window... that same sensor was put on the 1st gen 3 GTs as part of that door lock recall

To clarify, not everyone got them, but yes some had them installed during the recall.

I think he was just saying in the event that the window was broken and the door was opened from the inside, the alarm would go off. Not that they had a proximity sensor.

My 2011 speed has this feature. I learned last week when I put my hand through a half down window to unlock it and open the door. I grabbed the handle and alarm went off. I had to run inside to my basement to get my keys lol
