    Default Tablet help?

A friend of mine is looking to get a tablet.
I don't know enough to help her and she has no clue.

So can someone suggest a tablet?
    android or iPad?

    What she is looking for.
    Just wifi.
She wants to be able to watch movies and listen for music. ( so more space. The better)
Use it for her online courses ( reading material)
And just general surfing. ( YouTube ect)

    Her budget is $200-$400.

She currently has an iPhone 4s and loves it. But is open to other options as well.
    Thanks for the help guys.

If she's already on the apple bandwagon she will pick up an iPad and have no problems with the interface. Android tablets offer more memory at a cheaper cost (usually). I have heard good things about the Samsung tablets.

You can usually save some money buying a refurb iPad from the apple store with a full warranty.

See I was thinking it would be good to get out of apple for the tablet considering she already has the phone. It would make it easier to use but she's a quick learner.

Plus isn't there certain sites that iPad can't open. ( I come across them on my phone now and again)

Another advantage with going with an Apple tablet is that many of the apps, when purchased for the iPhone, the iPad version will be automatically transferred to the iPad at no charge.

Other than that, the Samsung tablets and the Google Nexus tablets look really nice.

As for the online course, make sure they don't require Flash as the Apple products won't work with Flash.

If she can wait for the Apple announcement on Sept 10, iPad prices will drop if there's a new model coming out.

You can also save a bit with a refurb iPad (none in stock at the moment):
    http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

Alternatively, go with Nexus 7 or 10 at a cheaper price than an iPad.

    Thanks guys.

For her to have movies on it and music. 16 or 32 gig ( for iPad) or what gig for nexus.

Just spoke with her and she thinks her courses require flash. At least some will she's attempting to confirm.

Anyone have the nexus or Samsung to give me reviews?

32 gig is ideal for someone who has both movies and music on it. Movies take up a crapload of space

I would keep the size as close to the iPhone if possible especially if she intends to keep the same mp3 playlists on both devices.
Otherwise get the largest you can afford.

I think she should try something new. iPhones, iPads and iPods limit what you can do on them. I have a Galaxy Nexus and I have flash on it. I can go to a website and stream a movie straight from there without having to jailbreak my phone, or tweak any settings.

    Which nexus do you have?

Is it hard to load upload movies you have downloaded/own?

    Sorry missed your response.

She actually doesn't have music on her phone. She doesn't know how. Lol.

BUT she has asked me to load movies and music onto it for her. In which case would be a lot. Lol.

I have a Galaxy Nexus (it's a phone), but it runs the same operating system as the Nexus tablet.

I don't store movies on my phone, I just stream them. You can easily download movies on a Nexus tablet because you just plug it into your computer/laptop and drag and drop the file.

Nexus is not Samsung. It's Google's brand which uses different manufacturers (HTC, LG, ASUS, Samsung).

The Nexus 7 is a Google tablet that was developed by Asus though. The Galaxy Nexus was developed by Samsung and Google.

You're going to have trouble trying to run flash on any of the tablets. Adobe stopped support their mobile version of flash player and most sites are transitioning away from flash in favour of HTML 5.

It takes some tinkering (and I could point you in the right directions) but an android tablet is your best bet for getting flash to work, so the nexus 7 is a great choice. They just updated it too with some better performance and a much higher resolution.

Just thought I'll point out that not all android tablets/phones support flash. I think they are slowly discontinuing it for android too. That said I am running a custom ROM on my Galaxy Nexus that came with flash player... Dunno if the package file is available online but if it is...its as simple as downloading it directly onto the tablet then opening it and it will install..

Asyed is correct. Actually neither run flash natively. A lot of browsers and websites nowadays support html5. She should just stick to the pad, her account is transferable, as well as the contacts, and everything else between devices will be synced. My wife tried a Samsung galaxy s3 but in the end couldn't deal with it and reverted back to her trusty iPhone 4. It's deja vu all over again circa 1990's/2000's - "PC or Mac?"

If she doesn't know how to put music on her iPhone, she's going to have trouble using android. I just don't think it is as failsafe as Apple's solution. With iTunes, she can sync all her stuff in one click, versus a lot of work around solutions with Android (I don't think she'll know how to flash, custom roms, etc on an android)

I would wait until next week and then pre-order a new iPad or iPad mini
