Caution...Gen2 Rear Spoiler extremely loose

Last weekend I went grocery shopping with my wife and as usual I dropped the grocery bags in the hatch and closed it. I saw the spoiler has quite a bit of play. Then of course, I started to shake the spoiler a bit and I sh!t you not there was close to 1/3 of an inch of movement. I have noticed that there was some sort of play to it since day 1, but nothing like a third of an inch. So I went home, tighten the 2 screws under the hatch. I was able to spin the nut for like 3 to 4 turns before it's some what hand tight. On a side note, I never touched the spoiler in terms of mods or what not.

So later that evening, out of curiosity, I checked MSF for loose spoiler. There was a guy actually lost a spoiler on the highway and the car was less than 2 years old gen2. Just out of sh!ts and giggles, I started to wiggle random gen2's spoilers in parking lots, and I found them very loose. So word of advice, tighten them bolts before you lose it completely!

I had that issue with my spoiler as well. It's a 10mm socket to tighten it but it has to be a deep socket otherwise the bolt one clear. A little bit of blue Loctite helps too.

Yea, happened on mine too Doesn't help that the area is exposed since my AutoExe spoiler is shorter than the stock one..

This is a well known issue on the GENPU. Put some locktite on the threads and then do the nuts up. There are 4, two under the center trim and one at each corner covered with a plastic plug. If you use locktite they won't come loose again.

Not a problem, just didn't want anyone to lose a spoiler over 2 loose nuts.

Lol, the power is there but driving fast is another thing. I did hear some noise from time to time from the rear end of the car while driving but never thought it was the spoiler. After the nuts were tighten up, the noise was gone.

Are there directions in the service manual to remove the panel that cover the nuts? Or just jimmy and flat head screwdriver in there?

For GenPu speed 3 there are only 2 plugs and the nuts are right behind them.

No problem, I believe the center panel you just have to pry it out if there are no reinstallable rivets.

A bolt had fallen off mine and another was loose. Mother's 10' 3 same dealio. As other mentioned some loctite.......though I still have the nut rattling around inside the hatch.

Lol, same here, a nut fell into the little gap on the right side of my hatch body panel, I tried and tried to fish it out from both the top and bottom, but the lil bugger just won't come out ... stupid thing sometimes rolls back and forth when you open and close the hatch, so irritating!!

As for others that may have subs in the trunk, this would be a good time to remove the spoiler altogether and put some double sided tape where the spoiler makes contact with the hatch and then reinstall and snug up those bolts, helps cut down on the spoiler rattling away from the bass.

Noticed this spoiler issue as well. Took speed to dealership as I have warranty still. They tightened and I went on my way. If it gets loose again, I will loctite it

^this will be the worst.... it will probably bug the crap out of me when I hear that nut rattling in the hatch....

The panel just pulls off it is held with clips. Just make sure it is not freezing cold when you take it off, plastic gets brittle in the cold and is easily broken.

same problem with my ebay raised spoiler. I always hate it when someone slams the trunk closed because you can see the damn thing move.

I've slammed the trunk on a few occasions, and honestly, with the aftermarket replica MS3 spoiler, that is the least of my worries.

Whenever I go into a car wash, water leaks in. This never happened with the stock spoiler.
I could blame either shoddy aftermarket replica from Nextmod, or crappy installation by Velocity.
