Help!!! 2013 Skyactive ticking sound around belts in cold start!!!!

Hi Fellows,

Got a question here with this annoying ticking sound. My girl bought a new m3 a few months ago but it kept having that ticking sound around belts in cold start. When she's warmed up, the sound went away. Sent her to dealer and was told noise was not found and nothing wrong with it and was told by the service guy that it was normal with M3s. Wtf?!!! I can't show them the noise coz she's already warmed up (no ticking sound) before I drive her to the dealer.

Just wondering if anyone has the same problem like mine? coz I believe in you guys way more than stealership!!!

Normal. This is a common sound from direct-injected engines with high compression.

Thx for your reply, aitch. Yes, I was aware of that video shot on Youtube and I know direct-injected engine brings a lots noise. However, you can identify the noise in my video from that guy's with the ticking sound around belts. That's completely a different noise from his vehicle.

My owned a 06 M3 Hatchback at 114,000 kms and had the same ticking sound found around belts. I did a lot of research by that time and it seemed that it was the old/worn out bearings making that sound.

So did you show the dealer the video you shot? That's probably the best evidence. Either way they may need you to leave it overnight and them start it in the morning.

that's more of a twitchering noise which to me would be a bad tensioner or the belt was contaminated and is now noisy. Injectors are more of a ticking noise.

It sounds to me like it's coming from the AC compressor and the sound is metallic, i.e. not the belt chirping sound. Perhaps the AC clutch to plate clearance is on the tight side, or there might be some sand or other debris stuck in there.
Try turning on the AC and let it cycle few times. Maybe the engage/disengage action will cure this.
