This is correct. You are always at fault when you hit someone from behind.

Someone really couldnt wait... forced me to slow down to prevent hitting his ass.

also inb4 someone says I was going to fast... I was doing 100 which is the normal speed of traffic on that stretch of the road. I only caught up to the cars in front because their light just turned green...

So wait... you were doing 100 on a stretch of road that clearly isn't zoned 100. You do realize that despite the fact that "everyone's doing it" you're coming around a gradual curve that prevents oncoming traffic from seeing you from a great distance. Speed limits are there to help ensure that people turning left won't have someone coming toward them at a speed that doesn't allow them to clear the intersection. If you had been doing the limit, this would not have occurred.

Doesn't matter how fast I was going... People need to learn to judge speed better. 100 is a perfectly safe and acceptable speed for that road. Ontario just likes to underestimate speed limits because of the huge lack of skill in many drivers. In Europe a road like that would easily be 100 kph.

Almost everyone speeds and people need to adjust for that.

"I know I was speeding officer but so was everyone else so I believe it's ok. It's his fault I hit him even tho I was going well above the limit"

I wonder how that would play out. -.-

If youve driven on country roads long enough/in rural areas most officers dont give a crap if you are going 20 and sometimes 30 over if everyone / a whole line of cars is doing it.

Source: Ive passed cops doing 140 on multiple occasions on the 400 with the cars infront and behind doing the same and never got pulled over for it.

Does that mean you were doing 150?

Quite possibly just responding to something light/sirens off. I never risk it.

When you get pulled over for doing 140 and get a nice ticket for it then what will you say? Never say never. Just sayin....

    no I was doing 140 myself.... ( I should have rephrased that..ugh)

Keep in mind it was a summer afternoon and there was almost no traffic with perfect road conditions.

Not that I condone this kind of speeding. I was just passing a bunch of trucks and didnt want to hold/slow traffic in the passing lane up. I usually stick to 130 max.... I dropped down to 130 after passing the trucks ( which were hogging the center lane)

Must be a TO thing. I've never seen people doing 140 next to police around here. Considering 10 more km and your into suspension and impound territory.

To be fair from what i experienced... the opp is more stricter along the 401 compared to the 400.... especially west of Milton.

Source: I used to go to london every weekend for 2 years back in 2010/2011.

Also you cant really go faster than 120 on the 401 in toronto ... on a good day

Doing 20+ over in a construction zone is a terrible idea. I know that stretch of road (bradford resident) and yea people do speed along that road, will you continue to do 100 when the new homes go in? And at present that stretch is limited to 60 so ur doing 40 over at least. As for your comment "everyone speeds, ppl need to adjust" is a poor excuse and attempt to justify speeding

its limited to 60 when workers are present afaik.
It was a sunday afternoon and hence no workers were present. Im familiar with that construction zone and unless theres work being done and/or traffic is heavy and/or the roads are wet ( none of these in this case) there is no real reason to go slower compared to when there was no construction there.

And they are planning to build houses there??? I doubt anyone in their right mind would build new houses along that road unless there will be long driveways similar to the houses along Hwy 88 between 400 and tenth sideroad.
That said I dont say I always go over the limit. Its retarded stupid to go any faster than 40 in schoolzones and neighborhoods that are densely packed with short driveways. But as for other areas, It is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged ( unless you think young driver's defensive driving program is misleading) to go whatever speed traffic is moving at. Any faster is a dumb idea because you risk rear ending someone and any slower is equally dumb as you risk being rear ended.

The speed limits we have in and around bradford are infact prehistoric and if you do live there you would know that only 1% of traffic maybe does the artificially low limit of 50. Most others do 60... and thats in the right lane.

I do in fact live there, and yes residents do go over the speed limit but that still is a flimsy excuse. The 80 sign headed out of bradford is/was covered up and a 60 sign was placed beside it. Pretty sure that limits the speed to 60 regardless of if workers are there or not. Houses are going up in the cleared field to the north of the roadway across from the farmer fields up the hill slightly.

Most likely its a subdivision going up there and like most subdivisions there probably wont be any houses right up against the main street ( similar to the layouts of all the other new subdivisions in bradford).
As for the speed limits I feel like the 60 is only temproary until construction is complete. If it was a permamant change then why not just remove the 80 sign instead of covering it up? This is similar to the 400 north of canal road... yes the limit has been reduced ( because construction to 80) but most of the time they construction only happens at night and during the day everyone still maintains 120 through that stretch.

Now would you honestly be wanting to drive 60 on a road where everyone else is doing 80-100???

I have when construction workers are present and ppl treat it like a highway and are doing 120. This wknd bcuz of the work lanes were closed and ppl didnt adjust accordingly and were taking out pylons bcuz they failed to grasp lane closures and were going too fast to adjust accordingly. U keep pushing ur luck speeding along at 100 in a 60 (temp drop or not).

obviously going over the limit set by construction when workers are present is a bad idea I agree.
I understand why they would lower the limit and respect the safety of the workers. just see no need to slow down when there is no lane closures/work going on. heck they even set up temproary concrete barriers in the stretch of the 400 where they are doing construction near bradford.

Lets not fill this thread with this debate though. If you want (with permission from @loki) we can create a seperate thread and have a peaceful debate there.

Going the regular speed when workers are present IS a bad idea I agree. If theres workers on the road... or even a vehicle off to the shoulder I always slow down.

In the case of the 400 though in that stretch where they are doing construction, if theres no construction going on and theres no lane closures or narrow lanes then I dont see why traffic needs to slow down from their existing pace unless someone ahead is braking .

Im in no way saying you have to speed at all times but theres certain behaviours you cant change and its better to adapt to it rather than trying to enforce the law .

Lets stop cluttering this thread as its starting to go off-topic. If you would like to discuss this further you could pm me ( or we could create another thread if we want input from others... I guess if its ok with one of the mods) and we could discuss this in a civil manner.
