    Default Mazda not honoring warranty..

    Hi Everyone

Purchased my 2013 Mazda 3 with 25 000km last august. Took it for its first service at airport Mazda around November of last year 29 000km. Told them to look into my rear shock as it was making noise, they said they didn't have time to. Now on my 32 000km oil change ( premature oil change lol ) they advised me that my suspension warranty was up on May 28 2016 and they will not honor it ,rear shock needs replacement, EVEN THO i told them last oil change to look into it while it was under warranty. Funniest part is that its actually documented in their notes that i asked for it to be checked.

Mazda Canada has been contacted , and i have already reached out to public relations and thankfully to my wife who works for Toronto Star i will have this issue most likely publicized.

This was their logic " You did not come in before the 4 months for your most recent oil change and you only came in twice before " . The worst part is that the service advisior actually believed this was my fault , i should have came in every 4 months , EVEN THO i only did 8000km in 11 months, 2 oil changes for 8000km not bad i say. ( i think the service advisor likes me, and wants to see me every month)

After i walked out of the dealership, i looked at my car to make sure it wasn't a Maserati , every 4 months oil change !!!

Sad story , but im lately bored with my time so i cant wait to hear back from mazda canada !

Nice that you have been on the site for almost a year..you don't seem to post much. Hope once this is resolved you continue to become active, and not just use the site as a soapbox to stand on.

Are shocks even a part of any warranty? I mean i dont see it being warrantied because its a part that will eventually fail .. or ive just never experienced a real warranty?

Oil change & suspension are completely separate components of the car. Sounds like a stereotypical stealership.

My 2006 shocks lasted lowering & track days. They were fine at over 50,000 KM. (I swapped them out for something else afterwards, they were still fine).

It's part of bumper to bumper warranty. I got my rear shocks replaced some time in the 2nd year.

For oil changes, Mazda recommends every 4 months or 8000km, whichever comes first.

So you know more about when to change your oil than the people who built the car? Got ya.

Regardless you should have followed up with the dealer before your warranty ran out.

Sad or not that's the schedule set out in your owners manual, ignore it at you peril. As pointed out in the post above the onus was on you to follow up.

Oil doesn't go bad just sitting for 4 months, especially a synthetic.

OP - As for no time to deal with the rear struts, I can swap a set in about 20 minutes using a jack and stands. If the car was already on the hoist it's a 10 minute job for a tech to deal with. A bunch of BS if they can't fit a quick little job like that in IMO.

    .
Maybe not, but the reality is Mazda says 4 months or 8K, if you choose to ignore the schedule they can legally and with impunity tell you to go pound sand in the event of a warranty claim. Why risk the grief for the sake of a few extra oil changes over the course of the warranty period.

What's more sad is that your ACTUALLY siding with the dealership just for sake of argument .. You did read my post and did see that I took the car in while under warranty right ? You do realize Mazda uses full synthetic oil ... Every 4 month oil changes is self explanatory as to why it's retarded

**** man , this is why i dont like posting in these forums , people just don't tend to use logic . How do you come up with a stupid response like that ? Imagine i came to you at 1:30pm and told you my shock is bad , and you return the car to me at 6pm and you tell me " i did the oil change but sorry didnt have a chance to look at your shock " even tho its a sunday and 0 cars in the lot.....

Then when i come back 6 months later , " sorry you should have came 2 weeks earlier your warranty is expired on may 28th " ............

**** man , common Pat , your making me want to delete my profile from the forums, i swear.

I went through a similar situation quite a few years ago with a local Toyota dealership. One of the brake rotors went warped *just* past the B-2-B warranty period (like, a couple of weeks). Took it in and had them take a look. The service manager told me that because I hadn't had the oil changes done by them (in fact all had been done when they were supposed to be, just by somebody more convenient), they weren't willing to extend any sort of "good will". The claim was that if I'd had the oil changes done by them, they'd have noticed the warping rotor. I didn't know they took the wheels off to do oil changes, and at that time there were no service guidelines for brakes.
No problem, brake work wasn't that expensive, and they lost me as a customer forevermore. Since at that time I was a serial Toyota owner (usually had two in my family fleet at any one time), they lost a lot more than the "good will" cost.

My read of the OP's story makes it sound similar. The vehicle is now out of warranty, meaning the dealer would have to either go to bat with Mazda Canada to get reimbursed, or eat the cost as "good will". Since the OP missed a couple of routine services, they're using that as an excuse. Remember, somebody has to pay for this work, either Mazda Canada or the dealership, or you.

OP, if your service record really does show that you'd reported the issue while in warranty, then I'd just contact Mazda Canada and lodge a complaint. If you actually have documentation that you reported the problem earlier, you should be in pretty good shape.
If Mazda Canada decides in your favor, I'd request to get the actual work done at another dealership.

    Brad.
