I have an 06 GT-Auto.... I get around 550-600km per tank the last two tanks I have filled. I shift between 2000-3000 ... never use any setting that will turn on the AC... I drive mainly on the highway --gardiner 90% of the time.... that being said, I wouldnt consider this highway driving as 50-60% of my gardiner driving(maybe more) is done "stop and go" .... I usually never cruise accross the city unless it is 10pm-6am.... My fuel savings are credited to both driving at 100kmh when clear of traffic... and always using cruise control. You would be amazed at the difference actively using cruise control can make. As well..... before you go knocking at me about the 100kmh speed I choose to drive at...... on my drive to Pearson Airport.... it is approximately 30km's...... that being said.... driving at 120 will save me about 2 mins.... big deal. I also dont ever worry about cops as they could care less about me driving 10kmh over the limit... Each is own.....

Here are some more recommendations for increasing fuel economy:

    • Perform "On-Board Diagnostic System Check" for diagnostic trouble codes (sensors or actuators which may be malfunctioning)
    • Check for dragging brakes
    • Check transmission shift patterns for slipping, use of all gears, lock-up operation
    • Check ignition timing
    • Check owner's driving habits including A/C usage, hard accelerations, carrying heavy loads
    • Check emission control system
    • Check vacuum hoses for leaks, kinks, proper routing
    • Check tire pressure
    • Check fuel type, quality, and alcohol content
    • Check fuel pressure and fuel system for leaks
    • Check air cleaner element
    • Check coolant level
    • Check ignition system for wet plugs, cracks, wear, improper gap, burned electrodes, or heavy deposits, cracking or improperly connected ignition wires
    • Check for proper calibration of speedometer
    • In extreme cases, there may be engine problems such as poor
    • compression or faulty fuel injectors

    Angry Re: Fuel Economy

i dont keep an exact count but i know i get 100 km for each section on the gas gauge including the fact that the pointer when gas is filled up is pointing past the top line in the gauge. so i would say i get roughly 400 km per tank mixed with half and half highway city driving. let me know what you think because i do notice that the gas consumption sucks. if you do the math, 400 on a full tank is no where near the AVERAGE the mazda dealerships put out for us to see. winter or summer driving, revving or no revving, i get the same mileage and i've had this mazda3 since july 2005...

if you want to have any case when bringing it to the dealer, you should keep track of the mileage.. otherwise they'll just tell you to take a hike without looking into it at all.

i was actually a little surprised to see this on my fuel gauge today but i'm not complaining..

that is actually pretty sick eh? 146 km from only the first quarter lol, i get just over 100km on that, lucky u! lol

and im not making a case, just seeing if you guys have the same gas consumption as me, seems like theyre falsely advertising their gas consumption. is anyone actually CLOSE to getting their averages?

    ***146KM and 3/4 tank left***
Sorry to burst the bubble majic, but I've noticed my milage about the same last week. The difference being I packed my tank full, which was gave me a few more miles than before.

umm you didn't burst anything dude.. i normally get 100-120 at the 1/4 mark hence my 'surprise'

and i always stop after the first click.. no wonder you get better mileage if you can get 1-2L more.. that's 12-25km more ..

Ahh, I usually get about 125 - 150 if I fill to the first click.

Sometimes I throw in a little more, some gas stations are have sensitive pumps. I fill hardcore to the first click and maybe half thottle (hehe) to the second.

That little amount makes all the differance.

80 km at the 1/4 mark? that sounds pretty bad, doesnt it? if we have 80 per quarter of the guage, then 80 times 4 is 320??? thats even worse than a suped up rsx type-S, my buddy can get 370km on a full tank with his type-s

im just speaking based on what i remember, i dont think there was a difference with winter driving, summer driving, revving or no revving, city or highway driving, i still get 100 km at each quarter, good or bad? i think the only thing that brings it down a lil is if i turn on the A/C and the funny thing is the A/C and the heater isnt even good enough, i sweat like crazy with the A/C on and i shiver like theres no tomorrow in the winter when my heater has been on for 20 minutes

You should be getting slightly more in the first quarter of the tank because you fill slightly over the full line. Anything under 100 for the first quarter is not good. A/C or heater will bring down mileage. So will not keeping your tires pumped, keeping your air filter or oil dirty.

I hit around 140km first quarter on a regular basis and have been averaging 34 mpg (Canadian) thru the winter, but has anyone noticed that the last half or lower part of the tank seems to go quicker? Its seems so on mine, ....just wondering.

I got about 400 km for my first tank doing city and highway. I drive a bit hard on the gas so I expect it to be low but come on 400 km a tank? My sunfire got better gas mileage then that lol

On my last tank of gas I only got 300km before the gas light came on. I will admit that most of the time I do drive pretty hard, but when I filled up I decided to try and get better fuel economy, so i've been driving a lot easier.

This is what im at after a quarter tank...

    and thats 100% city driving.

No actually its Canadian.....I'm wondering did you take all those pics on one hwy trip? ...seeing as you have the cruise on in all of them....lol.

But back to my question ...Has anyone noticed the bottom half of the tank seems to go quicker?

no, the first one is in pure daytime and no cruise (green light has to be on) the other one was at night when i was cruising back on the highway, i do use cruise a lot tho, even in the city (within reason of course) so i don't have to worry about a ticket

    .
not really.. say in the above example, the first half you get 270 and the light comes on at 500, after the light you have an EASY 60 km remaining (i've done up to 100km) so that's 270 and 290 for first and second half respectively.. then again each tank varies..

EDIT: those with trip computer, how sensitive is the sensor/display? say you brake hard or take an onramp quite fast, does the 'remaining fuel' or 'remaining km' change drastically? at all? just wondering how the digital gauge differs from the analog one..

I do mostly Highway driving on the 407, and a little bit of city driving in and around Richmond Hill.

    I average around 500-530 km/tank

Thanks for the explanation...haha I don't think I've ever used my cruise yet so I wouldn't know about the green light....I guess I should try it and see if it works.I guess the tank thing seems that way to me because I never allow it to go below about 1/3 tank before filling it, ... just being cautious.

As for Blkout's situation man your mileage really sucks, either you drive very spirited or there is something definitely wrong.Have you taken in to the dealer and had it scanned? .....just wondering.
