Default Winter tire package from dealership: good deal?

    Hi,

I was in having my speed3 serviced this morning and talked to the parts manager on the way out about winter tires.

They're offering 4 17" Michelin x-ice winter tires with the standard Mazda3 rims for about $1400.

I've always had all seasons on my cars before this and so I'm buying winter tires for the first time in a long time. Is this deal any good at all?

What are you other speed3 owners doing?

    Cheers

A friend of mine took her 3 to the dealer last saturday, they offered winter packages in this price range, she said she was going with a package from TM3 sponsor Tires 23, they matched the discount..Dunlops on 16" steel for just over $800 all in.

Yeah, I may be stupid but I'd rather have nicer rims that basic steelies for the winter.

It sounds like this package isn't a bad price with the rims included, then?

Look here as well for Winter Tires Packages from Joe (Mazda of Toronto). If you are getting brand new OEM 17" alloys just for winter, you might as well go see Joe for excellent customer service.

Keep in mind that it isn't too tough to find 17's used. It's a bit late now to start looking, but it's worth a shot. Don't really need brand new wheels just for winter.

Anything from a dealer is a bad deal for you. Great for the dealer, though.

    Tires23 ftw.

well... honestly you can get a better deal than from the dealer for the winter tires...
I just bought the 4 steelies from MoT (coz it was 55 each) and going else where for the tires...

Standard rims as in steelies? But I don't think the 3 comes with 17" steelies as a standard rim.

You can get 16" X-Ice and a set of alloys from the Tire Rack for $1200 shipped or about $900+ taxes/duties if you pick them up from Niagara/Bufflao.

I got this deal a month ago and am very happ with it,
