It can be installed at any Mazda dealer.

Just so everyone knows. Those who are eligible for the door plate, and decide to get the shock sensor upgrade from Mazda, should get the parts and labour for FREE! If a dealer tries to charge you anything they are ripping you off! MOT is doing the installs free of charge since this is what is supposed to be done.

Again...DO NOT PAY FOR THE SHOCK SENSOR UPGRADE (if you are eligible for it)

Any dealer can install Jappy - just make sure that they have it in stock since most of them have been on backorder and most importantly, make sure you speak to them upfront about the cost/what is being done for free.

I'm scared to go into my dealer and have them charge me, since 4 days ago the guy said I would be paying at least $100 out of pocket for it.

Is the only eligibility requirements are pre-jan 07 models and that they are a GT?

I think I saw something about a GX/GS on a rebate form but I'm not sure. I do know that the GTs get either a free shock sensor and installation or $100 rebate for having an aftermarket alarm. As for the exact month, etc. You'll have to have someone check the VIN. I have just looked into it enough to know some of this stuff.

Woo hoo! Got mine installed today
Didnt pay a dime (except my oil change and new plugs)

Both the door plate and shock sensor. Works amazingly well. I love it! I wish I had it sooner when my neighbours kids started playing vollyball and decided to use my car as a net

This is what the shock sensor kit looks like. There is also 2 zip ties but they aren't in the picture.

Look what I just found...For those interested in taking a chance and saving $40.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/CODE-ALARM-SHOCK...QQcmdZViewItem

This looks to be identical to Mazda's sensor, just with out the branding.

The $160 installed price for the shock sensor... does/can the TM3 discount come off of that?

    Excellent find!

I have left a message with the seller asking about shipping cost to Canada, for one unit and for ten units.

I doubt it. I will be doing the install soon. I already have the sensor from Mazda and have located the appropriate wires to tap into. I'm just going to confirm with someone who has had it done correctly by Mazda and then do a How-To for everyone. It's the easiest install ever. Practically anyone can do it.

That sensor looks to be the same. I would test it first before buying 10...

    That I will do

But if it works, and several people want them, then we may as will find out if we can save a few bucks on the shipping. I find that the shipping cost from US is usually either really cheap or really expensive.... usually the latter.

Well if shipping for 10+ or so is expensive to Canada let me know. I may be able to work something out by having it shipped to the US.

If all goes well, mine will be installed Tuesday. I have to wait for them to order me a new foglight housing on Monday since I'm getting that replaced at the same time.

For those of us who might be trying the sensors on eBay... could one of you that has the OEM sensor kit check polarity of the diode jumper? Specifically, does the anode have the label, or is it the cathode?

    Thanks!

It says IN400 on the little anode or whatever it is That's all though.

    Thanks for checking.
IN400 sounds like an incomplete number... generally you will see IN4004, or IN4007 etc. There also should be a stripe on one end... that's the cathode. Other easy way to check is to stick an ohmeter on it... the resistance will be much higher (should read as an open circuit) one way than the other.

I heard back from the eBay guy... $6 to ship one, $35 to ship ten. I'm going to order one, and then hopefully be able to take advantage of your "how-to" (the PDF we have access to is a bit vague on a couple of critical points ). If everything works out then I am willing to organize a GB of 10+ units...

160 seems pretty high. ive seen quotes for like 102+tx installed (then minus the 100 from mazda). but the sensors have been backordered for a long time now. congrats to those that were able to get one.

$160 seems about right. 1 hr labour and parts. I guess it just depends on where you get it done and for which price. Not all of use get the rebate, so I won't be paying for labour more than $20. It only takes about 5-10 min to install.

I am SO confused about this entire thing.

    It's free. It's not. It's $100. It's $160. It's backordered. It's not backordered.

Does Mazda have ANY clue WTF they are doing?

Mazda's approach on this was disorganized. Dealers are also confused so it's not making the situation any better.

If you are eligible for the "door fix"
If you get the shock sensor installed, it SHOULD be free.
    or
If you have an aftermarket alarm then there is a rebate for $100.

Those not eligible for the "door fix" must pay for the part and labour if they want to add this sensor to their GT alarm. $100+

There has been a big shipment of shock sensors to dealers. Whether they have been all used or not I don't know.

You need to call your local dealer and find out what they are doing for this recall.

Make sure they do a VIN search. If you are eligible for the free install, it will show up on the screen.
