Just changed my driving style over the last week and noticed a huge difference. I've been doing 90% highway driving at 100km/hr and now using 7L/100km...was using 10L/100km driving at 120-130km/hr.

I have to say though that I don't feel that safe driving at 100km/hr as I feel someone may rear end me on the highway!

If they do then they owe you a new car through their insurance. The person that does the rear ending is always at fault.

Hmmm...I guess, but then I would have to go back to Jeff at MoT and listen to him try to sell me the extended warranty, rustproofing, tire warranty and etching all over again lol.

Would it make it better if you listened to him trying to sell you all that for a speed3?

New Record for me! I drove 3 KM with the "km left" at 0. Not by choice. Went up to the cottage and back, and to a chinchilla farm in west brampton and around a bit - 90% highway -

Got 642km on 47.5 liters of gas!!!

Thats an average of 7.4 l/100km! (the trip computer states 7.2... not too far off! Some of this trip was at 130kph on 407 - Which eats up the gas, however, a good 3 hours of driving was at 90kph in 5th gear.

That's awesome, but I don't understand the computer! If its out only .2 l/100km, why then did it read 0 km's left?? You had 8.5l left in your tank meaning you could have driven another 113 km?? Anyways that would mean you could literally get 742km out of a tank and still arrive safely at a gas station! Not that i would suggest trying it, its just a good thing to know

yes unfortunately most gas consumption is lost or gained through driving habits... 30% more fuel is consumed driving at 120km than at 90km and i like to cruise at around 130km on the 407 (otherwise you are holding back traffic!)... i like shifting at ~3000 rpm and i zoom zoom (relative to the Mz3) more than i should considering i like to think that i should save on my gas consumption... oh well... if one day i can't take it no more then i will trade it in for a yaris ... lol!

probably because of the way the computer is programmed. if it assumes liters are whole numbers, so when you drop down below 1L, you get 0.99 L, and the computer will throw away the decimal part. 0/x (where x is anything) is always 0, so that's what the computer tells you.

Edit: either that or the computer is programmed to calculate the km remaining incorrectly.

There is a theory which states that a billion monkeys pounding on a billion keyboards will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare.

Thanks to the Internet, we now know this theory is wrong.

I've filled up 3 times since I bought my car and each time the remaining km has increased. Today it was at 600km after the fill up, last time it was 550ish...I have been doing primarily 100km/hr. Today the km remaining actually started increasing. I'm sure it's done that before, but I just never noticed.

Your car should start running more efficiently when the first 1000-1600kms are done. It uses slightly more fuel during the break-in period.

I've actually noticed this, and was questioning myself about this too, but I had no answers. I guess this confirms my worries. Good to know!

My fuel consumption has gone up, and I'm getting close to 500km per tank on average.

Oops...meant to say that "the km remaining actually started increasing while I was driving." It started counting up which I never noticed before.

If you did a lot of stop and go driving, then cruised steady without stopping for 5-10 minutes it will go up.

I notice the remaining km's climb back up 1-2km while I'm driving sometimes.

After filling up my tank yesterday, it said I had 657km remaining (to start).
How much did it say for you once you've filled up? I'd like to know what everyone else is getting.

Yup, this usually happens when you're driving without stopping or accelerating going at a constant speed, but eventually it will start decreasing.

It really depends on how your stop and accelerate because if you accelerate hard, the number will decrease dramatically, and then once you start driving at constant, the number will increase again.

Just filled up this morning, here are my latest numbers which I find surprising as I have been driving pretty spirited since my recent mods

    500 km traveled on 39L = 7.8L/100km

With those number looks like I could have gone another 180 km's give or take, keeping in mind my driving is about 90% highway driving.

I am 100% sure that they calculate DTE with an extra 5-7 litres to go. Reasoning: If a fuel pump sucks in air, its generally not healthy for it. With EFI cars (every car 15 years or newer) they sometimes have trouble starting if your running nearly on fumes. As well, you wouldn't want to have your engine conk out while on an onramp or something, where the fuel wouldn't be incontact with the "drain"

Its just nice to know you got another 30 safe km after the meter reads 0. I never 100% trust gas meters anyway. When i get in my car in the morning on my sloped driveway, it can show that i have 1/8th a tank left... When i get on level ground, ti shows 1/4. Much different!

KMs remaining is never accurate for me. I think it is based on your average consumption/gas tank size.
The best reading is to do your own L/100KM calculations

580 kilometers on a tank, just refilled today. 45.685 litres put back in with the guage activating the low fuel light a few kilometers before I pulled in.

7.87 litres per 100 kilometers at the moment. It's been better and worse..

Average speed? I drive my girlfriend to work about 40 combined kilometers each morning.. Yeah it's a lot but it's temporary. So a lot of that is highway at the moment, but I still do quite a bit of city driving, and some of that morning and evening drive can be in traffic, too.

I'm guessing 65-70% highway, give or take.
