I avg. about 9L/100KM from October to now...about 70/30 (Hwy/City). by the time I fillup, it's about 450KM or so...then again, I have a bit of a lead foot as I avg about 120km/h highway on the way home...and about 100km/h on the way to work as there's more traffic. It's not bad mileage...but it's not the greatest or what some others drive. I drive a Auto GT Sport so that might factor in some things right there...

Interesting bit of research into the whether shutting the engine off at stop lights etc. saves fuel:

Since I've had the car in August I'm consistently getting around 9.1L/100km. That's with about 65% highway and 35% city driving.

I've put about 4300 kms on an 09 5spd GS. I'm still getting between 7.3-7.1 l/100km according to the trip computer with 1/3 city and 2/3 highway driving, using regular gas. I've found that driving style makes a huge difference. I notcied that by just revving the engine in first gear and accelerating quickly from stoplights can increase fuel consumption up to 8-8.5 l/100km! By applying a light throttle in first gear and cruising in 5th gear while in the city where possible I was able to bring that back down to 7.3l/100km.

I drive a 2007 GS sedan. My trip computer shows 7.4 as an average. I normally get 640 / 650 kms before the light comes on.

'04 GT with 85,000k's... i'm averaging 8.7L/100 at 75% highway (lots of rushhour traffic though)... driving an auto if it matters any... that said... i average about 120-125 on the highway, so it could be better if i slow down a little....

Better? Damn, I'd be happy with 10 L/100 km.

Hahaha..... I could probably drop the fuel consumption to about 8/100km if i slow down to 110... but there's no fun in that is there?

Did you buy your car brand new? And do you remember it getting better on gas as the time went on? I'm considering going to the dealer soon and complaining.

Nope, I bought it used this past June from Burlington Mazda.... 65k original kilometers.
Of course, I'm not an overly aggressive driver, no hard starts or hard braking, and probably 70-75% highway miles. My 8.7 is an average, so I've seen as good as 8 and as bad as 10....

09 M3S GT with 1100 km, avg 8.4/100 according to computer. How bogus is this thing, and how many km do i need to put on before i start getting reliable data? My calc. for consumption was about 560km on 44L

What!!! That's crazy. Are you actually getting this mileage? Mine is sucking even more now that it's cold. Something is wrong I think. It's probably up to 12 or 13 L/100 km now. This inconsistency between different cars points to crappy quality. I'm going to the dealer to complain.

I don't know what to tell you. I don't think 8.4 is stellar, thats what, like 29 MPG? My calculation put it closer to 7.6 or something. This is a brand new car so I don't know how more break in time will affect things. It is a manual and drives mostly highway (80%>70km/h).

Your numbers sound ridiculously high to me. I would complain to the dealer too.

    3DEE,

Are you figuring out your gas mileage by how many litres in the tank to actual km travelled, or are you using the info button and computer on the 3 for avg. consumption per 100km?

Well, liters in the tank to km. But the info button matches. So both I guess.

I always calculate my L/100km by starting off with a full tank and then comparing how many liters I put in the tank at each fillup to how many kilometers I've driven since the last fillup.

This gives me my L/100km. Using this "methodology", I am around 9L/100km at about 95% of my fillups.

My info button shows 9.1L/100km as my average consumption so it seems quite accurate to me.

But this is only my experience on my car so I can't speak for everyone else's experience!

This seems to be what I'm getting now, with my brand new '09 GT (auto). About 12L/100KM (all city, traffic..). I'm driving it easy. Almost granny-like. I'd hate to see the fuel economy if I were to drive it in a more 'sportier' way..

Anways, I'm still in the break-in period so I think its still too early to make a call. I'm hoping it gets better.

My previous car was a 2003 2.0L Elantra GT (auto also). Used to get about 11L/100KM in identical circumstances, and I drove that one *much* harder. Both cars about same size and weight.
