I'm pretty sure there are tons of threads that cover this kind of topic. Use the search tool at the top.
But im gonna be installing a MazdaSpeed CAI this weekend. It's a Mazda part and plus it has the splash guard to help against water and hydrolocking
Also wanted to note that if you're not going to go for the MS-CAI, for most intakes you could still get the hydro shield (that is like a sock) to put over the intake as well if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks guys! What do you think about the AEM CAI??
They MS CAI is made by AEM
MS CAI is exactly the same as the AEM CAI. I believe someone mentioned the part numbers are identical.
Cool! I'm a real newb...so here's another question...what are the advantages/disadvantages of having a CAI installed??

Does that help? Might as well put it to use.![]()
2005 Winning Blue Mica sedan (sold)
2006 Snowflake White Pearl hatch (sold)
Of course MGM comes to the rescue! You really make things easier... LOL
Advantage: It sounds great! A FEW (very few) extra horses and a slight (very slight) improvement in fuel economy.
Disadvantage: You will want to hear it so much that you will just stomp on the pedal and hold it, which causes it to use more gas.
+1 for mazdaspeed CAI, I will be installing one this spring time. I'm just waiting for this winter to end. hehe!

This thread compares AEM, Injen, Fujita and Mazdaspeed CAIs in terms of performance and sound. There are also a few prices in this thread, but they may not be accurate since the thread is around a year old.

This one talks about pricing, but once again, it is a bit out-dated. The sponsors and/other members will probably have to chime in to give an update on their latest pricing.

am going to be getting a k & m CAI soon hopefully before summer its only 300 some bucks get it in chrome or red, and it gives like 5.5 hp to the car not much but its nice looking.
The only bad part of the MS CAI is that it has a nipple sticking out on the filter. I haven't put a sock over it but it may interfere while putting one on it....

2010 Black Mazdaspeed 3 - Lightly modded
As far as the intake goes...I've already gone with the MS, hopefully it's as good as everyone says it is! As far as the benefits for having an intake goes...still unclear...
Some say not much additional HP and so, so gas mileage...some say different...what is it??
Theory vs Reality. They want to believe they're purchase made significant changes in power and what not, but in reality the intake is only a part of the equation. Think of it like this, in order to properly draw more air into the engine, you should allow it to come out freely as well, implying some exhaust modifications should be in order. My 0.02.
Basically... my real take on it is... forget the dyno charts, forget the gas mileage differences... just go with which sound you like best... if you do JUST an intake, doesn't make that much of a diff in HP or Fuel Economy...
(Basically, that's how I went with mine)
