    Default DP questions

Well i'm going to be probably doing the install myself. So the question that i have is the guys that did the DP install themselves or watched their mechanic install it, was there unexpected things that came up that you had to buy. Did you reuse the
Downpipe to Manifold Flange Gasket or did you buy a new one
can you reuse the existing Mazda OEM Donut Exhaust Gasket or do you need to buy a new one. (i will be connecting to the stock exhaust for now)
i know that the sensors and the bolts are b*tches to get out
    thanks

You can reuse all the stock parts from what I have seen/experienced, but you might have a hard time with the 5 bolts on the turbo. They have a nut on either side and basically just a stud through the middle so they can be really hard to get off, especially with all the heating and cooling cycles. Also, my mechanic (Jimmy) told me he has had problems with the stock bolts stripping, so he usually just replaces them with higher quality bolts during the install, anyway. You also have to remove the frame brace right underneath the car to even get at the downpipe. Very hard without a lift, lol. Good luck.

i knew about the race pipe being taken out since my downpipe has it included. i didn't know about the stripping of the treads i guess i should look into getting some high strength stud and bolts, just in case since it is my daily car. does anybody know the size and strength to replace them..

I did it on jack stands, didnt remove the sub frame and it is retarded hard.
there is a brace on the downpipe that is hard to get at(near the sub frame)
I used a small husky ratchet and various extensions and a deep socket and normal socket for the 5 downpipe bolts with ease.
After about 30,000k I did the install.
    I stripped 1 o2 sensor out of 2.
But I did half of the work with a crazy hang over that lasted 2 days

PAY someone to do this for you. I wouldnt want to do it again.

    I think 14mm

thats what happens when you sit on your hands... when a new one after shipping, border fees and now the USD/CAD rate costs twice as much you can't sit around and think about it

ok street unit sells the stuts and bolt kits for mounting the downpipe

"This kit comes in handy when taking the downpipe off the turbo. This kit includes 5 - grade 8, extreme heat resistant studs, 5 - grade 10.9, extreme heat resistant nuts, and 5 - grade 8, extreme heat resistant, stainless lock washers."

does anybody know where to get these here
cannot see myself buying them for $46 USD + shipping + customs

The threads couldnt be fixed. cant remember how much exactly but I think it was around 150 or so from a local mazda.
The o2 sensor closest to the dp flange(the o2 that froze on me) is more expensive than the other 1.

i read somewhere that it second one was cheaper and the first one was more, didn't know they were that expensive, i know that for the sensors you have to back it up and spray more pb blaster if they are sticking.

Spray PB Blaster on every nut/bolt, every day for a week before you attack the DP.

did anybody put anti-seize on the o2 sensor when putting them back in, or do you not need to. because i read somewhere that you should.

does it make a difference if the downpipe is hot or cold when taking the stuff out.

I've done this twice (my car and a buddies) ... what he said is true for the O2 sensor ... spray PB plaster on it while it's hot and then tackle it .... nice and easy with the socket - if you feel it snag, back it off then go again.

You'll need different size breaker bars too as most of those nuts/bolts are on REAL tight.
