heres a quote from a auto blog
    Both models are powered by a newly-developed 4.4-liter V8 M engine delivering 555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1500 to 5,650 rpm

Theres something a bit weird about this.. maybe its the angle?

The front bottom end looks out of place - nothing a kit couldn't fix.
The car looks too high off the groud - nothing a kit coundn't fix as well.
the rear seems very very compact and unlike any bmw ever seen.

After I have paid-off my 2006, might go for a bigger import car (sedan or a crossover) of the same price range of $ 24,000 with standard options and accessories (A/T, A/C, fog lamps, taxes and all those sh*ts) that can seat 5 or 6 passengers comfortably. Narrowing it down bit would be a Mazda 5. I really wanted a 4WD sedan like the Impreza, Acura TL but it is way out of my price range.

I still have 3 more years, who knows, the wind might blow to a different direction.

Frankly, I'll be thinking of changing my car after only 3 years from now, because it is the Mazda 3 Model 2008 and the first driver I have and still new
But when I decide to buy new ones, I aspire to Mazda CX9, or Subaru Impreza Hatchback 4WD

Enough of the exotics for now. To be realistic, the 2010 VW Golf R would be the next chariot:

Underhood is the familiar 2.0T engine, but it manages to crank out an incredible 270 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque thanks to a maximum boost of 17.4 psi.
Of course all that power would completely overwhelm the front wheels, so Volkswagen gave the Golf R all-wheel drive and a choice of DSG or traditional six-speed manual sits between the engine and awd system. The awd system is more advanced than the one found in the R32 Golf and can send nearly 100 percent of the power to the rear axle if needed. Impressively, the Golf R uses less fuel than the R32 while producing an extra 20 hp and a 0-62-mph time of 5.5 seconds with a DSG transmission.

I was leaning on the Impreza's for a while, until I got hooked on the white hatch that I'm looking for. I test drove one (impreza) and enjoyed it.

^ Good luck with the Miata... the flip open headlights only come on 90-97 model years and therefore it will be very difficult to find one in good condition!

An ex bf of mine drove a '90 Miata and that thing was only top notch because its previous owner never showed it a winter. Once my ex got it in his possession that car took a turn for the worse.

The IS is probably an easier choice of the two...
