Default First oilchange- Not good experience.

Went last week for my first oil change on my 2010 Mazda 3. Brought it to my dealer, and they did the oil change.. however i was about 5000Km. They told me i needed to rotate the tires. as this is my first brand new car i wanna follow maintenance even tho i found it odd doing a tire rotation after only 5,000km.
For a Tire rotation and oil change with taxes n all that BS i paid $71!
Is this reasonable? or did my dealer take me to the laundry.

BTW on the maintenance sticker.. they put my next oil change and 12,700KM - Feb 2011

Does this sound right to anyone.. or you folks think i should go to another Mazda dealer from now on?

Which dealership did you take the car to?

The service is $40 for an oil change and $20 for the tire rotation, sounds like they charged you the regular prices.

You did the tire rotation a bit early but better to do it now at 5000KM then at 12,700KM which is your next service.

As for the next schedule maintenance, that looks right too. It's 8000KM or 4 months.

Your supposed rotate your tires every 10,000 km not every 5,000

I took it to Scarborough Mazda. I was under the impression that an oil change was every 5,000KM or 3 months.. that's why i was wondering why they said next oil change at 12,700. The car was at 4780km when i brought it in for the oil change.

As for the tire rotation, on my old car i would just do it 2-4 times a year.

Are you going to be running snow tires?

I rotate mine twice a year When I change my wheels

Tire rotation is a part of the every 8000km or 4 months, I've got the "Mazda Scheduled Service Menu" right in front of me.

Nope no winter tires this year. From what ive read Tires that come on these cars from the factory r cheap n dont last very long ( 40,000KM if even). so im just gonna run em down and ill probably pick up winter tires next year.

You are correct they are not high quality, and do not last very long. However, they also are absolutely horrendous in the winter. Do yourself, and everyone around you a favour, and buy a winter tire package. To put it another way, a winter tire package is about the same price as your insurance deductible, better to pay for the winter tires and not the deductible.

I would also recommend you get snow tires. The Mazda 3 is a fairly light front-wheel drive car and slides all over the road if you don't have good traction.

As for tire rotation, you don't really have to worry if you change over your tires every year.

did you guys want some cheese with that?

The oil change interval is every 8K or 4 months and Mazda recommends (and the tire company) recommends rotating the tires every 8K.

This was never a problem in the 175/70/14 days

If you look closely, within the glovebox of your car in a little plastic case, you will find a gripping little book about a Spanish love story between a guy named 'MANUAL' and his car.

In this little romance novel, you will learn so much about how to keep this car based love affair prosperous throughout the years.

Note to readers: No Amish midgets were harmed during the creation of the love story.

Who ever you bought from could have helped you avoid this.

During your pickup they should be telling you the maintenance schedule..

I would still stick with Mazda's recommended 4 months, 8000KM

    +1

Castrol isn't going to replace your engine under their warranty if you have issues...

    Going with the dealership theme...

do the affiliated dealerships give discounts on oil change labour if I were to bring in my own oil?

I was quoted $31+tax at Forbes Mazda for labour + filter.

    Is this the "discount" labour?

They do not provide discounts for oil change labour. Oil Changes are considered a "menu service", and the prices are set by Mazda Canada.

Right, but you are simply not charged for the oil component if you supply your own, as far as I understand it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

That has always been my experience. They will remove the cost of oil from the service, but the labour rate remains the same.

    Hi,

I saw your post about your maintenance $$$ going to waste, and that you went to Scarboro Mazda. Check out our sponsor section http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/sh...ENSIVE-DEALERS . We offer dealership service with a much more reasonable charge. We are in the Dufferin & Finch area which is close to the 401 and Allen Rd.

Check out this poll I started on winter tires. You may want to buy the winter tires now and you may get another 1 or 2 summers with the tires you have now.
