    Default Concerning rust...

I booked an appt today at Whitby Mazda to see someone regarding my rust situation. I showed the person who was looking at my car the rust which is located on the passenger side rear door window frame (the small piece that separates the two pieces of glass) which has bubbling and noticeable rust. I also showed him the rust developing on the trunk lid when I open it up.

He told me my car was outside of the 3 year rust protection or something of that sort. I told him I thought it was 5 years and he responded with "that's for perforation, not rust." I am not sure if he is playing me for a fool or not, but if you know the ACTUAL years, what parts of the car they cover, that would be great.

The person I spoke with told me if I wanted to proceed to get it fixed it would cost me upwards of $600 just for the door to be fixed and basically told me to do the trunk lid myself.

I don't want to leave the rust much longer but if I can't get it done through Mazda, theres nothing I can do about it at the moment.

I will post pictures ASAP of my rust.

PS - I did check the search function!

I would suggest the advisor is playing you for a fool. I would suggest a)calling Mazda Canada and b)going to another dealership or escalating to the Service Manager at the same dealership.

I figured this. What is the warranty time? Is it 3 or 5 years? I have a 2006 Mazda 3 so I thought it would have been covered.

Can anyone suggest a Mazda dealer that they went to for the rust repairing?

Should I take pictures of the rust myself and contact Mazda Canada through e-mail?

I contacted Mazda Canada and they told me there is a 3 year warranty with "surface rust" and 6 year with "perforation". I am not sure but I'm pretty sure the rust is more than just surface rust on my window frame. I will take a pic in a few hours to show.

If there are any other users with the window frame bubbling/rusting that have actually got a fix from Mazda out of it, I would love to hear from you!

I had that same issue, as have others. When you peel off the black tape, you could actually see small holes in the door frame.

Should I remove the black stripping and see if it has perforated it? I just don't want to remove it and have an ugly rust spot visible and not have any perforation lol.

How do I go upon removing the black stripping?

my rust was horrible as it was on the rear quarters, trunk lid b pillars of both rear doors and my passenger side door.

no need to take off the tape..the bubbling can be seen already. just try a different dealership

lol if there's no sign of bubbling on the rear quarters then your fine but keep an eye on it. you said the rust was on the window frame before the little window?

Yeah, bubbling and noticeable rust on the window frame before the small window on the passenger side. I am going to give my car a really good check today and see if I can see any more bubbling or blistering.

well if that's the piece..it's replaceable and you can DIY lol but you probably don't want to since it's under warranty. Free is good

Exactly haha. I'll make a big stink about it and see how it goes.

As for the trunk lid.. there is surface rust.. but hardly any to no perforation. Should I just sand it down and treat it?

So what did you do to have them fix all the surface rust? Did you contact Mazda Canada or go to a dealer nearby and raise a stink?

the dealer took pictures of the spots that were affected and sent them to madza canada. They wanted to see how serious it was so they actually came to the dealership and they said ok we'll fix it.

Ya the dealer has to take pics each time, even if they have repaired those panels before.

I went to QEW Mazda in Oakville. Speak to them. I had major run around with Ontario Mazda including them telling me that Mazda Canada only covered $500 of the claim. I had wrote about it in my blog, check it here
