What's a Face lift?

I'm assuming that a facelift in car lingo means a slight remodelling of the look.

For the Mazda 3, would it be..?

initial '04 to '06

then facelift '07-'09

then facelift again in '10 (but '10 is more of a remodelling)

Please clarify.

Face lift is the same basic model with some minor changes.

04-06 and 07-09 are pretty much the same cars, save for minor changes. The full change came with the '10's

I'd say that the facelift would be from 07 to the 09 models, different bumper covers, rear lights and so on, but withought any major changes to the body panels/drivetrain. With the 10's + I'd call it a mid cycle refresh. still built off of the same platform but changed a lot of the body panels, and added some features, which would count as more than a face lift in my book.

Model redesign in 2010.

Almost all redesigns carry over parts and components from the prior generation car, but the 2010 models are most certainly a redesign and not a facelift.
